POLAND — The owner of a home damaged by fire early Tuesday morning took out a protection from abuse order against the occupant the day before, a detective confirmed Wednesday.

Androscoggin County Sheriff's Detective Sgt. William Gagne said Megan Pettengill, who owned the home at 140 Harris Hill Road, had taken out a protection from abuse order against David Hodgkin on Monday.

Hodgkin remained in fair condition at a Lewiston hospital Wednesday, suffering from a stab wound inflicted about the time of the fire. Firefighters discovered the injured man as they responded to his 911 call.

A fire investigator said Tuesday morning that the blaze started in the kitchen, but didn't disclose a cause. The mobile home with a two-story wooden addition at one end was severely damaged, authorities said.

Investigators hoped to interview Hodgkin sometime Wednesday to determine the cause of the fire, said Sgt. Ken Grimes at the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Sgt. Gagne said he hoped to glean information from Hodgkin about how he was wounded in the abdomen.
