Michael Rias, 18, of Lewiston was charged in connection with a purse snatching in downtown Lewiston late Wednesday.

According to Lt. Mark Cornelio of the Lewiston Police Department, officers were called to Jefferson and Pine streets for a report of a robbery at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday. The victim of the robbery, Annette Gammon of Lewiston, reported that she had been walking up Pine Street when a man reached out and grabbed her purse.

Gammon told police she resisted the robbery attempt, but had to let go of her purse and fell to the ground as the suspect ran away. She sustained minor injuries.

On Thursday morning, Detectives Trevor Campbell and Roland Godbout identified a possible suspect and arrested Duane Thomas, 21, of Mechanic Falls at a local pawnshop, where police said he was attempting to sell a camera stolen in the robbery.

Michael Rias, 18, of Lewiston, was later arrested and charged with robbery, a Class A crime. Thomas was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, a Class E crime.

Rias and Thomas are both being held at Androscoggin County Jail; $500 cash bail was set for Thomas, $2,000 cash bail for Rias.

Was that a threat? And are we supposed to be scared of a man that can't raise children properly?

Losers

I would love to see this kind of attempt on a woman with a concealed carry permit.

Here in Arizona you do not need a permit to carry a concealed weapon. So you need to be careful as to what crap you pull, or you may get your head blown off. It's called frontier justice.

what was wrong with the most

what was wrong with the most white state in the nation we was also the highest taxed now we are still the highest overall taxed and having to deal with high crime as a direct result of politicians tring to stir the pot up by enticing blacks to the area with offers of special programs and easier requirments than other states so they can keep their seats!!! Thats why we call them Scum Bums!!!

Perhap if these two were

Perhap if these two were putting as much effort into getting or keeping a job as they did snatching purses they wouldn't look so bored and would have something to show for their effort besides jail time at the end of the day. In the meantime, I suggest some volunteering to build up their resume, fill their time, give them a little pride and give back to the community.

Glad they were caught

but I expect they'll be at it again in no time. I am sure they will get a slap on the wrist. I would also avoid walking on certain streets alone at night because of people like this - not fair that we have to be so cautious and afraid.

This is what

gives Lewiston the bad name. Not the countless number of law abiding citizens but the rift raft that is attracted to Lewiston.

Good job!

Good job catching these two little hooligans! I hope this poor woman will be okay. Her physical injuries might be minor....yet, I am sure there will be long term effects, such as being fearful walking down the streets in her own community. It is very sad.
