LEWISTON — Although his bail was reduced to $1,000 during a court proceeding Monday, stabbing suspect Mark Joseph McLaughlin, 50, of 18 Blake St. No. 3, remained in the Androscoggin County Jail on Monday night.
The Lewiston man was charged with elevated aggravated assault early Sunday morning after a fight at his apartment that resulted in a 57-year-old woman being stabbed multiple times.
Police released the woman's name and connection to McLaughlin on Monday. According to Lt. Mark Watson, of the Lewiston Police Department, McLaughlin is accused of stabbing his roommate, Cathy Mason, multiple times in the chest and back.
Mason left the apartment and walked on her own to Central Maine Medical Center. Lt. Mark Cornelio told WMTW-Channel 8 that Mason was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Watson said the case remains under investigation and that McLaughlin and Mason were the only two people involved in the dispute. Watson said the incident was not a domestic dispute because the two were roommates, but not related or involved in any other way. He said that a motive for the attack has not yet been determined.
the real story
who was the agency involved in getting this homeless man into an apartment without doing a proper mental health evaluation? do some actual reporting please!!!! if there is a non-profit organisation out there taking homless from the street and dumping them into apartments without taking consideration for those already living there then the SJ should report it.
i also agree the SJ in being inconsistant with mug shot photos.
