Lewiston police investigate report of assault

LEWISTON — Police are investigating a reported sex assault involving a young girl and a group of juvenile boys.

Lt. Mark Cornelio of the Lewiston Police Department said a number of juveniles were interviewed at the station Tuesday and police are looking at four of the boys as “strong suspects" while others are being sought.

He declined to release further details of the incident, which is being investigated by Detective Jim Theiss.

Police did not say where the reported incident occurred other than that the girl came in contact with the boys while she was on her way home from school Monday afternoon.

All involved are juveniles, said police Chief Michael Bussiere, although he declined to release their ages.

On Wednesday, none of the juveniles interviewed by police had been detained, Cornelio said, and no charges had been filed.

seriously?

armymom- I'm not thrilled about the new comment policy either, but do you plan to bash both the writers and the new policy in every post you make from now until feb 1st? It certainly seems that way

Considering 2 of my last 3 comments had noting to dowith either the writer of the story (or a comment) or the policy that I expect will be cancelled under pressure of advertisers, the answer would be no. Do you know that you can click on a contributors posting name when it is in blue and it will take you to their profile page where you can see all their previous posts? Try it, it is a very useful tool.

i was exaggerating

however, more than half of your posts today have been regarding this issue, including one longer than most articles in the paper. At least the long one was tactful.

Sorry I haven't been able to keep you entertained

I think all the reporters went on holiday vacation already. There isn't anything to comment on since there hasn't been much for new stories. Usually their is nothing new from Friday through Monday this week just very little period. The usual commenters are either traveling or stressed out and quiet too not keeping the threads going. Sorry I haven't been productive enough for you. The lull did give me plenty of time to contact 33 advertisers though. Was there some particular topic upon which you wished me to rapture you with my silver tongued elloquence.

Rather than complain

about the reporting of this story, please extend some comfort to this young girl and her family who must carry this burden. I pray the girl receives adequate treatment, both physically and emotional. Even then, there will be scars that will not heal.

Not only signed her name and got paid for this, she's an EDITOR

While SJ has their panties in a wad over getting sensitive identity information that local, county, state, federal and international law enforcement says never ever to give out or use on a website and intends to call and "verify" the identity of all participants on this forum by Feb 1 to preserve the quality of the paper, we get this quality piece of journalism from a paid employee of SJ who is not just a reporter but an editor. Must give them credit for including the authors real name. Or is it a professional/pen name?

We spoke with officers at the

We spoke with officers at the Lewiston Police Department several times over a period of days to get more information for this story, but the assault is under investigation and much information about the crime will not be made public until after the investigation is complete. When that happens, we will report that information. However, given that this was a sex crime committed against a juvenile, it's very possible information will be shielded to protect the victim's identity.
