Claude LaPlante


Rumford – Claude LaPlante, 62, died May 4.

He was born on June 9, 1943, in Rumford, a son of Henri LaPlante and Eva Lacroix LaPlante.

He graduated from Stephens High School, Class of 1961.

He moved to Townsend, Mass., a few years after graduation. He returned to live in Rumford three years ago.

He was a member of the Eagles. He was an avid reader and liked to spend time at the Rumford Public Library, where the staff was very accommodating to his specific requests of certain books, which had to be ordered from various parts of the state of Maine library system.

He is survived by a daughter, Angela Cheries and husband, Keith, of Amherst, N.H.; three sons, Stephen and wife, Judy, of Ashby, Mass., Matthew and wife, Jamie, of West Townsend, Mass., and Daniel of Massachusetts; six grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Maurice, and wife, Martha, of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Sister Aurore LaPlante of the Sister of St. Christienne of Marlboro, Mass., Sister Odile LaPlante, a Sister of Charity of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada; a brother, Wilfred and wife, Ella, of Rumford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Roland, and a sister, Jeannette Sutton, both of Rumford.
