Clifford Roger Haas Sr.


LEWISTON – Clifford Roger Haas Sr., 63, of Auburn died suddenly of a heart attack Wednesday, May 3, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Haverhill, Mass., on April 3, 1943, the son of Roger and Shirley (Parker) Haas and at the age of 9, his family moved to the Auburn and Mechanic Falls area. He was a graduate of Mechanic Falls High School and the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

He was U.S. Navy Seabee veteran having served in South Africa.

“Cliff” was a truck driver for 40 years and for the past few years he drove a wrecker truck and delivered newspapers. He was well-known for his mechanical diagnostic skills on autos and trucks and had a knowledge of electrical wiring.

He enjoyed recently his hobbies of woodworking, making clothes racks and picnic tables for wholesale.

He loved socializing and helping his many friends and his family. On the CB his handle was “Baldy” or “Gramps.”

He is survived by his daughters, Jennie Mae Currier and husband, Steve, Tammy Torrey and husband, Norman, and Dori Curtis and husband, Bill; his son, Clifford Haas Jr. and wife, Cindy; foster children, Rick Preble and Barbara Galarneau; stepchildren, Robert, Wade, and Herbert Lee, Dawn Small and Randy Small and wife, Sue; grandchildren, Amanda Christman, Alisha Chadwick, Stephen Palmer Chadwick, Brittnie Nelson, Tyler Curtis, Alex, Elizabeth, and Abigail Small, Aaron Haas and Jennifer Lee: great-grandchildren, Sylis Torrey and McKenzie Lee; sisters, Sandra Millett and husband, Charlie, Wendy Provencher and Edrie Marchand and husband, Rick; his brother, Roger Haas; his longtime companion, Martha Lawrence; his former wife, Louise Haas; his special friends, John Wright, Rusty Goding and Shannon Wheeler; many nieces and nephews; and his very special pet poodle, “Charlie.”
