CLT calling for cast members for ‘Mame’

AUBURN – David E. Lock, veteran director for Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre, is calling for auditions for “Mame,” a rousing musical being presented Aug. 11-20 at Lewiston Middle School.

Auditions will be held at 5 and 7 p.m., on Sunday, June 4 at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center, 30 Academy St., Auburn.

“Mame,” one of the great comedic plays that transcends the ages, is a timeless classic that stands on its own with a feel-good story and splashy production numbers.

Based on the novel by Patrick Dennis and the play, “Auntie Mame,” the book is by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. Music and lyrics are by Jerry Herman.

Flash back to the roaring ’20s as a 10-year-old orphan boy is delivered to his swinging, eccentric Auntie Mame while she is hosting a cocktail party for her wildly flamboyant friends.

Thus begins 18 years of fantastic adventures as she proves that life can be a banquet.

Winner of three Tony awards in 1966, lavish score highlights include “If He Walked Into My Life,” “We Need A Little Christmas,” “It’s Today,” “Bosom Buddies,” and the title song “Mame.”

Auditioners are requested to bring music or sing a selection from “Mame.” Roles to be filled include the following:

Mame Dennis: (40-ish) Two octave vocal range – Low F# to High F#, a Bohemian free spirit whose motto is: “Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death”

Patrick Dennis: (10 years old) High Alto. Mame’s nephew and her little love. Endearing, charming and eager to learn about life from his Auntie Mame

Vera Charles: Alto. Mame’s dearest friend and bosom buddy. She loves her gin.

Agnes Gooch: Soprano. Great character and vocal role. She is Patrick’s nanny and Mame’s tutelage, she learns to “LIVE.”

Madame Branislowski: Beauty parlor owner

Older Patrick: Baritone. Plays from 19-29 years. A changed boy from our beloved younger Patrick. Engaged to Gloria Upson

Gloria Upson: An airhead upper class student.
