Clyde R. Burnham


PORTLAND – Clyde R. Burnham, 79, of Lewiston died Monday, May 1, after a brief illness.

He was born Nov. 5, 1926, the son of Carolin (Tripp) and Verril Burnham. He was a 26-year veteran of the Lewiston Fire Department, retiring with the rank of captain. He also worked for the Union Water Co. He was a veteran of World War II, serving two years in Japan.

His siblings and family received from him leadership, guidance and affection. As part of his legacy to his family, he wrote his autobiography and dedicated it to his wife.

He enjoyed swimming, biking and working on the home he built with his wife, which included mowing his 3-acre lawn with his John Deere.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Claire; a son, Rick and wife, Pauline, of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Rebecca of Colorado, Erick of Florida, Jessica and Jonathan of Lewiston; three great-grandchildren, Stefanie, Darian and Samuel; a sister, Ruth Gaghan of Augusta; a brother, David of Leeds; a great-aunt, Ruth Tripp; and many nieces and nephews.
