AUBURN — Maine Machine Products Company of South Paris was recently awarded a seed grant from the Maine Technology Institute. The grant was among those awarded by the MTI for companies to develop products that will advance Maine’s innovation economy. The grants will leverage more than $310,000 in private matching funds to support business plans that will lead to increased economic opportunities statewide.
Companies funded by MTI bring new products and services to the U.S. and global markets and create higher paying jobs at a faster rate than the average Maine company. The seed grant awarded to the company is supporting prototype development and testing for down-hole oil and gas measuring tools manufactured from exotic materials including titanium, inconel and K-500 monel.
Students in the Machine Tool Technology Program at Central Maine Community College are participating in the effort by assisting in the design and machining of some of the experimental parts, including an installation tool for a piston seal.
