Coast Guard sends New England oil tools to Gulf

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Two U.S. Coast Guard vessels from New England are due to arrive in Alabama to help clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Coast Guard says vessels from Portsmouth, N.H, and Quonset, R.I., are due to arrive in Mobile, Ala., on Friday.

The vessels are skimming systems stationed in the Northeast to help contain spills in the region.

Some of the Northeast equipment was used earlier this year in an oil spill exercise off Portland, Maine.
