Colby A. Davis


1923 – 2014

SOUTH PARIS — Colby A. Davis, 90, passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

He was born in Solon on Dec. 14, 1923, the son of Lawrence L. and Elsie (Adams) Davis. He attended Hebron schools and graduated from Edward Little High School. Following high school, Colby faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II; he served in Italy and was a prisoner of war for 11 months.

Upon his return from the war, he attended and graduated from the University of Maine, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in agriculture. In the 1960s, he entered the U.S. Post Office, where he became the postmaster in Canton; he retired after 24 years, in 1985.

Colby enjoyed snowmobiling and being involved with town events, including the Historical Society. He was a member of the VFW, the John D. Long American Legion Post in Buckfield and was a longtime member of the Tyrian Lodge AF & AM in Mechanic Falls.

Surviving are his son, Gary and his wife, Nanci, of Raymond; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Keane and her husband, Tom, of Carlsbad, Calif., and Zachary Davis and his significant other, Niki Brown, of Raymond.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Davis, who died in 1995.
