Mike Aldrich: Obama ignorant of the Bible

I found the May 20 syndicated column by Cal Thomas concerning President Barack Obama's ignorance of the Bible to be right on target.

There is nothing more annoying to a genuine born-again Christian than to have a fake Christian in public office, especially the presidency. Obama obviously forgot to read in First Corinthians where almighty God sternly warns that "adulterers and homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of God." (I Corinthians 6:9,10)

This moral issue is much more serious than politics or equal rights. The Bible describes God's personality as being extremely merciful but he also has a very severe judgment side. We are talking about an awesome creator who could squish his planet Earth like a ripe blueberry if he so desired. We have lost our fear of God.

George Washington once stated, “It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible.” This country was founded by strong Christian leaders and Billy Graham also had a strong influence in the White House, from Harry Truman to George W. Bush.

But now we have a weak and arrogant president who has decided to shake his fist in the face of the almighty.

Born Again

All of these comments are from people not born again. You do not understand being born again because you have not experienced it. You must receive it by faith and that comes from hearing the Word. But if you never take the time to hear the Word preached with authority then you have a hopeless eternal future. And it takes humility which is not very common.

Perhaps some gullibility,

Perhaps some gullibility, which is prolific.

cherry picking the Bible?

Just wondering how many of the born again christians are following all 600+ rule put down by almight God in the Old Testament. Is cherry picking the list OK or are they just suggestions from God??
and just what is God going to do on judgement day when so many christians are not following all of his rules but just the one they want to follow and how are we go to deal with "love they neighbor as yourself" but not all your neighbors . Did Jesus Christ in his own words-- ever condemn homosexual? It will be interesting to see who really makes it in to heaven considering All the rules that are not followed in Gods Old Testament

Mike Aldrich's picture

Jesus Christ is the TRUTH

Look, if you want to reject Jesus Christ then take your chances that hell is not a real place for you to spend eternity. But if you do end up in hell you cannot blame me. I am happy and going to a very happy place when I die. If you doubt, you miss out. If you can't handle some tough love, so be it. If I love you, I warn you.

Personally, I think I prefer Valhalla

I don't really want to argue the pros and cons of your religion. As long as it works for you and doesn't treat others crappy, I say go for it. However, if you think that we should base our government on your religion and elect leaders who more or less fit the mold you put forward, you're going to need to put forward more evidence than a 2000 year old book.

Please provide a source for the Washington quote

First, its completely out of character with Washington's true beliefs in that he was a Mason, deist, and non-christian.
Second, " This country was founded by strong Christian leaders". Absolute nonsense. Its very difficult to come up with any of the founders who had any "Christian" beliefs. Many religious folks in America before 1800 did not believe Christ was divine. Less than 10% attended or were members of any "christian" denomination. Christ is almost never mentioned in sermons and religious rites of the time. America was transformed into a Christian culture between 1825-1860 long after our founding and by an completely different generation of people.
Third, disagreement over the interpretation of the bible is not ignorance of the Bible. Abe Lincoln could quote from memory virtually the entire book, but he was an atheist who challanged virtually all interpretations of his age.
Obama's strong Christian background should not be and Constitutionally can't be a disqualification for office no matter what the wacko's say.

 's picture

Just curious...

...what to you have to do to be a "fake Christian" because from what I've read, no one measures up to be a "real Christian."

Mike Aldrich's picture

heaven or hell

I am not going to apologize for standing up for the Word of God. If the National Weather Service can warn people of a killer hurricane I can warn them that the Word is clear on the sin of homosexuality and lesbianism. If people die without being born again by the Holy Spirit and saved by the blood of Jesus they cannot enter heaven. The only alternative is hell. If I care about and love people I will warn them even if it involves tough love. My life PROVES that the born again experience is real and life changing. 2 Corinthians 4:4 explains that most people are blinded by Satan. I was blinded until the age of 21. I was a big time sinner. But I searched for God and found Him in Jesus Christ. I just do not want people to spend eternity in hell. A very miserable place that goes on forever. Don't wait until you die to get right with God. At that point it will be too late. God bless you as you consider becoming a happy born again Christian.

MARK GRAVEL's picture

So if God does not exist,

So if God does not exist, neither does his word.

Perhaps we should first spend time discussing if God really exists. Show us your evidence!

Jason Theriault's picture

The problem.

I have no issue with someone professing their faith, as long as they don't take offense when I question it.

My biggest issue with all of this is that you are basing your beliefs on rules that were written thousands of years ago that have been translated many times. The same bible you're basing your condemnation on homosexuality also says that slavery is ok, women are subservient to men, and that eating Lobster is not ok.

BTW - I'm guessing your using the New American Standard Bible... And the full passage is :

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

Sounds like that's just about everyone.

Jason Theriault's picture

TJ disagrees

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between church and State."

-Thomas Jefferson

BTW - You really want to bring up religion when your candidate's religion has magic underwear and didn't think black people were good enough until 1978?

You just need to be born again through the work of the Holy Spirit and faith in Jesus.

Yeah, and oBAMa's father had

Yeah, and oBAMa's father had three wives until he divorced barack's mother. Do you really want to start poking fun at other people's religions? You and I both know that oBAMa is probably more familiar with the Qoran than the Bible. Not a slam, don't know it for fact, but it's very possible. It's all moot.

Mike Aldrich's picture

Born Again

Obama needs to be born again and saved through faith in Jesus. He is really blinded and lost.

MARK GRAVEL's picture

He is a politician

He is a politician panhandling for votes, need we say more?

PAUL ST JEAN's picture

A carnival huckster selling

A carnival huckster selling snake oil to a witless audience also fits him pretty well.

Jason Theriault's picture

No, I don't know

I don't know how familiar he is with either. And it was the letter's author who wants to make this about religion, not I.

Mike Aldrich's picture

Really

It's not about religion. It's about sin sending people to hell forever because they reject the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. You need to get born again through faith in Jesus.

Jason Theriault's picture

So, it's about religion

It's about religion because religions define sin.

PAUL ST JEAN's picture

Interesting concept; never

Interesting concept; never quite thought of it that way. The 10 Commandments define sin pretty well, but all religions do not adhere to them.

God didn't warn about anything in your Bible verse

Paul did the warning. He also said, in 1 Corinthians 5:11.."But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat."
Adultery, divorce, excess drinking, greed, laziness, idolotry (praying to saints), swindling (any organized religion), slander (gossiping/lying about someone), sex/babies out of wedlock, these things go on all around us on a daily basis and we associate with people everyday who are guilty of these "sins" yet nowhere do I hear any righteous indignation being raised about these things.
You choose to get all indignant about allowing two people who love each other to marry because they are the same sex and yet better than half of all straight marriages end in divorce, while less than 1/3 of gay marriages end in divorce
I don't know about you, but I'd hardly say that, with all the other things going on in the world, Obama's stand on gay marriage can be considered "Shaking his fist in the face of the Almighty".
Before any of you start throwing Old Testament crap at me, It doesn't apply to Christians, which I'm not. The coming of Christ created a new covenant with God and the old rules were no longer valid unless you were a Jew.
Read the entire Book before cherry picking verses that suit your agenda.

 's picture

OK

Then a christian can't be a Republican.

PAUL ST JEAN's picture

So Ed, you're saying same sex

So Ed, you're saying same sex marriage is going to tip the divorce scale in America? Heteros should learn from the homosexuals how to live their marriages so as to make them last longer? Is that what I'm reading from your divorce statistics?

 's picture

Nope...

All I'm saying is that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

PAUL ST JEAN's picture

Fair enough...

Fair enough...

in reply to Mike Aldrich

I, too, am ignorant of the bible. Perhaps you can enlighten me. Is there a section that tells us to stone a woman to death????? I can't remember there being a case of stoning in your neighborhood. Does that indicate that you can ignore parts that you don't agree with and others can do the same? Help me out Mike !
