At a recent Dixfield selectmen meeting, the town manager pointed out that there were a number of people in town who were favorable to the idea of a wind energy facility on Colonel Holman Mountain ridge, but, in his opinion, were not interested in a confrontation with the opposing side.
Certainly, no one would disparage anyone for not wanting to get into an argument and have bitterness prevail. There is much to admire about those who have a quiet and determined viewpoint. More often than not, there are many more of us with that attribute than those out to “rattle the cage” and exclaim for debate.
We learn from each other, whether it be by open, civil discourse or by secret ballot and, in the end, decisions are based on majority decision.
As we, the citizens of Dixfield, apply due process and thought to the meaning of what becomes of our community with the addition of an industrial wind energy facility, may our decisions be based on what is best for us all.
As one selectman said, this will be the most important decision Dixfield citizens will make in many years.
Dan McKay, Dixfield
The newspapers in this state
The newspapers in this state could certainly do more to educate their readership in the matter of industrial wind, but apparently this is politically incorrect. The blatantly benevolent bias of the media toward these developers comes at great cost to the rural residents of this state. At the very least, objective reporting should be observed. Kudos to the people of Maine who have done their homework on this complex, convoluted and politically manipulated subject. Industrial wind is not only an ecological disaster, it's a financial disaster as well for the rate payers. Industrial wind does not provide dispatchable energy to the grid, and its environmental sprawl is a travesty to Maine's scenic and economically priceless landscape.

It is interesting that I have not found very many citizens in Dixfield who want wind power !! I take offense to the town manager calling those that dont want wind power more aggressive or quarrelsome !! In my part of town there is no fight among the neighbors we all dont want wind power in this town !! So if the town manager see this it might be that people in his end of town or with his point of view are the argumentative ones or maybe they just dont want to fight with the town government and are afraid of repercussions from them !!
