This is in response to Thomas Shields' letter, printed Aug. 5.
Shields doesn't seem to realize what people are trying to tell him. It is not about Republicans or Democrats; it is about what is good for this country.
He states as a fact in his letter, "Democrats had full control of Congress, including all funding and taxes, from 2006 to 2010." What does that imply? It probably depends on who you ask and their political beliefs.
He further states, "The Republican Party is not perfect, but it is clear that President Barack Obama has not done his job, and Mitt Romney has the integrity, experience and ability to get us out of the mess Obama created. Also, a change is needed in Congress." That statement (not fact) is exactly what is wrong with this country.
I agree with Shields that people need to scrutinize each candidate to ensure they will do the job they are elected to do with integrity and character.
I wonder if he would be happy if the president and all members of Congress were Republican?
I will maintain my independence and vote for the individual who will work for all Americans, to bring the nation out of its current economic mess.
Norman Smith, Poland

So you're voting for
So you're voting for Obama...go on and say it you bloody sheep. Quit pretending to be clever and leading us through your little diatribe. You prefer to vote for someone who has not lived up to one...not one campaign promise. He had four years and couldn't deliver on one.

Given your obvious distaste for Republicans, the only other candidate with a chance of winning will destroy your and all Americans' independence and continue the work of destroying the economy.
