President Barack Obama's past, including questions about his citizenship, scholastic records and affiliations with the Chicago crowd, the Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, his shameful senatorial record and Marxist agenda have all been given too much of a pass in the media. Inspired by his socialistic tutoring, and reinforced by his relationships, he now wants to implement those ways.
In early campaign speeches, he said there were "flaws" in the U.S. Constitution. That Constitution empowers Congress, not the president, to make laws. But he has bypassed that body to become a Congress of one and a law unto himself, enforcing only the laws he likes; using his charm to deceive; doing anything to divert attention from his past, his character, his promises and failures.
He points his finger at others, but has more pointing to himself. He is more apt to criticize than to advise.
Besides the media and the unions, who were fruitful in his election, he has taken advantage of extensive photo opportunities. He is prideful.
The true test of Christianity is humility. He prided himself on what he does best, in quoting past presidents, especially Abraham Lincoln. But one quote he purposely didn't use is "You can fool some of the people all the time, and all the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time."
Why anyone would want to vote for such a person is beyond common sense and beyond understanding.

When the founding fathers wrote up the Constitution they did not mention caretaking as a social responsibility. That's because the document dealt mostly with commerce and international relations. Society was mostly rural then with Mom being the caretaker for the babies, the sick, the handicapped, the elderly (of which there were few), and the sick cow. She was not legally allowed to own property and had nothing to do with international diplomacy so not mentioned. Caretaking has remained largely a woman's responsibility. Nowadays, however, women work and vote and as a result have demanded community support for their caretaking responsibilities. What the Republicans call entitlements, all that they want to eliminate government support for, in the Ryan budget, is just that, support for caretakers, the Mom who works part-time to take care of kids, who stays home to take care of babies, or handicapped children that she did not abort, or elderly relatives, or sick family members. These are not "Welfare queens", they are caretakers and they play an important role in the health of our communities and deserve as much support from our government as the oil companies and the financial and defense guys. This budget reminds me of the guy who always has money for beer, boats, cars, hunting but cries poverty when the kids need shoes, or the washing machine breaks down; the guy who never learned the sharing lesson in kindergarden, the guy you divorced.

Starting well before his coronation in 2009, a steady parade of sycophants has told us at every opportunity that he is the smartest man ever even to think about the presidency. If that's true, wouldn't his transcripts confirm that? I can think of only two scenarios for hiding them forever.
(1) They might show that he was a mediocre student at best, begging questions about how he got through college and law school, both very expensive and prestigious, with all those academic accolades.
(2) They might show that he was, indeed, the great intellect the sycophants have claimed. But they might also show that he was enrolled as a "foreign student", receiving all kinds of aid, not just monetary, to which he was, of course, not entitled, being a bona fide natural born US citizen.
The first is the ultimate form of affirmative action. The second is an incredibly cynical manipulation of the system for personal gain.

What I need to hear from Romney/Ryan supporters is how my life will be better in their new world order. They want to eliminate nearly all federal dollars coming into Maine. How are we better off in the next ice storm if we get the same response the Iowa farmers are getting? They want to give us an $8000 voucher instead of Medicare . How does that help my sick and aged mother in a nursing home that charges $9000 a month? How does making me responsible for that bill by attaching my house and pension make my life better? They will eliminate college loans. How does a generation of uneducated young people make Maine better and how many people working in our colleges and hospitals will lose their jobs? If the federal government stops inspecting our food, building our roads and bridges, requiring our job sites to be safe for workers and our schools for kids, how does that make my life better? If they raise my taxes by $2000 a year and all of that money goes to defense contractors, oil companies, and bankers most of which are in the South, how does that make me, a Mainer, better off. I don't need to hear about how bad Obama is, tell me how I will be better off.

Well said Claire. I honestly don't see how any reasonable, thinking person could disagree with you. Both of these candidates can have the attitude of "you're on your own" because they were both born to incredible wealth. Their theory of a trickle-down economy has been debunked time and time again. We need the government to invest in education, technology, science, infrastructure and for everyone to have the opportunity to go to college. Romney/Ryan would love to see a next to nothing tax rate with defense the only thing government spends money on. They would love to see Social Security and Medicare dismantled as they have a very Darwinist view of survival of the fittest. If you experience bad luck or job loss or illness...oh well too bad so sad.

Your aged mother in a nursing home receives the latter, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the former. Beyond that, Romney/Ryan have not proposed to change anything about Medicare for anyone already on it, or close to it. Obama has proposed exactly that, by stealing $700 billion from Medicare to prop up ObamaCare.
If we eliminate federal dollars coming in by eliminating Maine dollars going out to DC, wonderful! The federal government has shown, and continues to prove, itself to be a terrible steward of our hard-earned money. The fewer of my dollars they have to waste, the better off this Mainer will be.

Obama didn't "steal" anything. The cuts made HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH SENIOR BENEFITS. It was to reduce waste, fraud and government subsidies to big pharma, hospitals, and private providers-with demands to reduce outrageous CEO benefits and to reign in overhead costs.
Sure, they aren't proposing to cut benefits on anyone on Medicare now or over the age of 55 (only so they don't lose the senior vote). I am 52 and have paid into Social Security/Medicare for THIRTY-FIVE YEARS with the expectation of receiving those benefits. Am I just screwed??? Ask a 54 year-old if they like the idea of Medicare not being there when they retire.
And they have to believe current seniors will have no problem throwing their own children under the bus by voting for Romney/Ryan who want to turn Medicare into a voucher system. That current seniors will have the attitude of "hey, as long as I get mine I don't care about future generations." And how does saying they're not going to give those vouchers out for a few more years make it any better? Seems to be a pretty short-sighted vision of the future.
They get their way with that and next they will want to privatize social security. You can invest carefully all your life but if the market tanks...your investments could prove to be worthless. With what happened with Wall Street that's a hell of a scary thought. There are just some things that shouldn't be trusted to "market forces".

First of all, I would not think of telling how to vote. It is your freedom, and as such, you are welcome to make bad choice, which I think voting for Obama is a bad choice. I’m not saying Romney is perfect – hell no. We know Obama is going to take this country in the direction or more debt. With Romney there is a chance we can slow this down or at best start to reverse it. The Romney campaign, now with Ryan on board, will at least discuss the third rail of politics – entitlements.
Other than providing basic services, such as roads, sanitation, and a means tested short-term safety net, the government should be out of our business. That is, the government should only do what the private sector cannot. Of course there is plenty of debate where this line is drawn.
However, the government should not be in the business of instigating class divisions. Clearly, the government must spend within its means, a foreign concept these days. Clearly the government should be prudent with taxpayer’s money, something it is not as seen recently with multiple GSA parties on the taxpayer’s dime. We can go on and on.
Better living through smaller government – Obama cannot and will not get us there, Romney may get us there. That is enough for me.
In closing, I don’t want the government to do anything for me, you, or anyone else personally. The government should enable people to do for themselves.

And gee, they are only doing it on the backs of the poor and the middle class. Don't forget about those huge tax cuts to the rich. He (Ryan) also wants to eliminate capital gains tax-if you inherit money or do nothing but let your money make more money for you, like Romney, your effective tax rate will be less than 1%. Why is fiscal austerity and the idea of "sacrifice" only applied to the poor and working class? Why are the super wealthy never asked to do their part? No, Romney/Ryan want to decimate an insurance program that people have paid into all of their working lives. Romney and Ryan were born into incredible wealth and have probably never even known anyone that will depend on these programs, unless they've actually spoken to any of their maids or gardeners. Oops, unless you consider that Ryan took advantage of Social Security benefits to pay for his college education. Now there's a loophole I wouldn't mind seeing closed - this guy's family wealth came from government contracts (building this nation's roads with tons of federal money) - yet he gets Social Security benefits and has so little need of them he banks all payments!
His budget ideas come not from any fiscal responsibility, but his Ayn Rand beliefs that selfishness is a worthy goal. If you weren't born with great wealth or don't make it to the tippy-top of the ladder of success, then you're a useless loser! You should do a little research on him before you start espousing his values.
And can you explain where his "fiscal responsibility" was when he voted for huge unfunded tax cuts (both times!), 2 unfunded wars, TARP, the Wall Street bailout, Medicare Part D (7 TRILLION IN UNFUNDED LIABILITIES), and the auto bailout?????????

Because there is not enough revenue to be had from the “rich” to make any significant headway on the deficit and debt. Austerity is the natural course of action, similar to what is occurring in Europe. Moreover, collateral damage from all this deficit spending, higher food and energy costs, does affect the middle class more. This is not the fault of the rich.

Top 10% already pay 70% of Federal Revenue – that is enough in my opinion. Moreover, way should these people be asked to bailout this government when it shits in its own sandbox (i.e. spends too much.)

These ladies, with many others, refuse to realize simple math or pretend to not believe. As long as they are cozy and comfy then who cares if the United States falls into economic ruin and dissolves 12.2 seconds after they pass away. The truth is out there for the willing. There is not enough individual wealth in the this country to cover our deficit spending. Turkey in every pot politics for years and years caught up with us. Example. If I make 60,000 dollars a year then I grow accustomed to that standard of living and perhaps even carry a certain amount of credit card debt and a mortgage assuming my continued wages. What would happen if I lost my job and was rehired at 28,000 per year. One would think that I would cut my expenses accordingly. Common sense right? Wrong, but obviously some people think that simple math rules don't apply on such a large scale. The recession was a pay cut for the country and we didn't cut our spending accordingly we've increased it. So, so frustrating when one becomes so entrenched within an ideaology that reality loses precedent to being right. Mark they don't want the truth they want to be right... When i was a child I wished for world peace , to end world hunger, to end discrimination... etc then I grew up and realized that life is hard and so is the human condition. I'm not jaded but realistic to the fact that the U.S. of A. can't be everything to every one. At some point a person needs to stand up and get what they need for themselves. It's very empowering, I wish more people tried it.
" Do not pray for easier lives, pray to be stronger men." (JFK) , " Conservatives think Liberals are dumb and pipe dreamers, while Liberals think conservatives are evil."(Me)... make for a difficult coversation when the person you're trying to reason with views all your motives as selfish & sinister.

So people are still "questioning" the president's birth certificate. Well some people are still chasing the Holy Grail but that doesn't mean it exists. No subject has been more extensively researched and yet remains unproven but some folks stick their fingers in their ears and insist they hear nothing. What does it prove? Not much. As for his college transcript, I can't imagine why that matters. None of our presidents have been very good scholars. It has never been a requirement before so I assume the suggestion is that he got a leg up because he was black. Well what if he did. Bush got a leg up because he was rich and McCain got a leg up because his father was an Admiral. So what? As for his Marxism, that old "Red Scare " tactic from the 50's is so outdated as to be funny. The cold war is dead. People should be living today's problems not those from 60 years ago. Finally he is "prideful". Is that the same as "uppity'? It sounds like it. When the nation's wealthiest individuals and corporations bilk the Treasury of billions and billions of dollars, you cannot expect those that are hurting the most to make up the difference.
It's the Republicans that spend and NOT tax...Bush drove this country into the ground and it's going to take a lot more than 3 years to turn it around I don't care who's in office! Let's have sensible spending cuts and progressive taxes so everyone pays their fair share and the sacrifice is shared. I will be on Medicare in a few short years and I damn sure don't want to be handed a voucher!!!
