R. Melendy: Elitists can't relate to ordinary folks

Mitt Romney will never understand ordinary people such as myself, friends, neighbors or relatives. He will never comprehend what it is like to live with an ordinary job or with a typical income.

His income, as reported to the IRS for the year 2010, was $20 million. And we have no idea how much money he has in banks in Switzerland, the Cayman Islands or other accounts outside the U.S. Like other very wealthy people, I assume he does that to avoid paying taxes on his wealth to the U.S. government. He also has multiple million-dollar homes.

When former President George Bush Sr. was running for re-election, the former governor of Texas, Ann Richard, said of him that he was "born with a silver spoon in his mouth." I think perhaps Romney was born with a diamond-studded silver spoon in his mouth.

The elitists will never be able to relate to ordinary people.

What a laugher!

And you honestly think you have anything in common with Barack Husein Obama??? This is a common talking point but never gets refuted. He has never worked a real job! Not even a union job. And for the record, the populist term "Elitest" most commonly refers to Limousine Liberals that sit in rooms at Harvard University making decisions for the population because they know better for us " The electorate" than we do for ourselves.

Foot! She said "Foot!"

Actually Ann Richards got in a 'Two-fer'

Referring both to Dubya's luck of being born to wealth, and his penchant for mangling the English language, she said" "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth."

George Soros is pretty rich.

George Soros is pretty rich. Is he an elitist? Do you hate Soros for being so rich? What about John Edwards? He's worth several million bucks from chasing ambulances? Do you hate him. And, good old Harry Reid. On a salary of $193K a year (I'll bet in your mind that makes him a rich guy already) and he's managed to acquire wealth to the tune of $10 million. Do you hate him as an elitist? Tom Brady earns in excess of $20 million a year, which makes him pretty rich. I'll bet you don't hate him.
You hate Mitt Romney because he's wealthy (he wasn't born wealthy; his father was) and a republican.
If you won $8 million bucks in a lottery, would you give it all back or would you keep it all and hate yourself for being so rich?

What's the matter, Mark?

Is your 401(k) slipping? Don't forget to watch the convention tonight to get your daily dose of envy.

You assume wrong.

R. Melendy: I assume he does that to avoid paying taxes on his wealth to the U.S. government.

The US is one of a few countries (perhaps the only one) that taxes the income of its citizens, no matter where they earn it, here or abroad. If Romney isn't paying all taxes due, he is guilty of a felony, as alleged by that coward Harry Reid, who spews his slander protected by "Senatorial immunity".

The key word in your assumption is "wealth". You want to tax his wealth, in addition to his income. That's the essence of class warfare and the politics of envy.

I agree with you on one point. The elitist currently in the White House will never be able to relate to ordinary people.
