LIVERMORE FALLS — When 9-year-old Catherine Smith went for a walk last month with her grandfather Kenney Smith on Main Street, she noticed that the crossing signal at the crosswalk was not visible.
She had pressed the button but noticed that she couldn't see the white shape of a person indicating it was safe to walk across the street, she said.
“I couldn't see the man,” she said.
A sign showing the directions to different towns was blocking the view of the crossing signal.
They went to the Town Office and told workers of the problem and the sign has been moved away from the signal.
Town Manager Kristal Flagg commended Catherine Smith for noticing the blocked sign at the Sept. 4 selectmen's meeting.
Flagg said she had talked to representatives of the road construction project. They were impressed that a 9-year-old had noticed that the sign was obscured since several people had looked at it when the signal was installed and did not see the problem, Flagg told selectmen.
