N. Mitchell: Need a real change in Dixfield

Does anyone recall a more efficient government in Dixfield?

We used to have a public works director who had a water operator’s license and was also the code enforcement officer. His name was Jimmy Kidder. We had the same size public works crew as now and yet they somehow managed to do all the water and sewer rounds, meter reading, water testing, upkeep, etc.

They also managed to mow the cemeteries and keep up with all the road maintenance in town as well.

I don’t believe there has been any significant change in miles of road, or water and sewer customers, or a large growth in cemeteries or a large building boom. Yet the town government saw fit to hire outside entities such as the Mexico Water Department for the water system; Ted Berry Company to do the sewer; and a separate code enforcement officer.

That is the kind of unnecessary growth in government that needs to stop.

Two of the highway crew worked in the water and sewer department, so when public works stopped doing the water and sewer, two positions should have been cut. But they were kept and public works does less with more.

There needs to be real change in Dixfield. Fiscal responsibility is needed.

Those who have been a party to waste and growth in government should be replaced.

Norman Mitchell, Dixfield

The people of Dixfield have

The people of Dixfield have felt the squeeze on their household budgets due to increasing property taxes for too long ! At the last town meeting, many particular municipal budgets were within 1 to 5 votes of being cut and cut drastically. More and more citizens are dismayed by the foolish spending taking place at Town Hall. The voters of Dixfield rejected the proposed school budget of 2013 at the ballot booth, which has turned into a crusade to get out of the RSU.
A vote for Norm Mitchell assures the town a new direction of honest, common sense and responsible thought will be used in the decision process.
