Animal caregiver Sabrina Kunc of Lewiston holds a family of kittens at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Lewiston on Thursday. The humane society is having a "Give Thanks" adoption promotion during the month of November so staff can find good homes for the abundance of cats at the shelter. "We have almost 400 cats in our care," Operations Manager Zachary Black said. Adoption fees have been waived for cats six months and older, and the normal kitten fee of $130 has been reduced to $45. The fee includes all vaccinations, spay or neuter, a microchip and a follow-up vet exam. A free cat carrier comes with each adoption during the promotion.

Cat overload at Lewiston shelter

Nice photo and nice article . Our local http://www.aspca.org estimates that there are more stray cats than people on this island of ≠ 150,000 inhabitants
Then there's all the feral pigs , mongeese , dogs , and children :)

That's great BUT...

It's wonderful that they are having this promotion, BUT I just paid $130 for a kitten at the shelter 2 weeks ago AND on top of that $70 dollars at the "free" vet visit because that cat had an upper resperatory infection! I know they charge such high rate for adoption due to the extent of how they care for the animals, BUT this cat was also previously fixed before he was brought to the shelter, he's four months old, I just think with the cat being fixed prior to being brought to the shelter AND him being sick $130 was a bit much in this case, but I wouldn't trade him for anything...
