Alexis Wright, charged with running a prostitution operation in her Kennebunk Zumba studio, requested a separate trial from co-defendant Mark Strong.
KENNEBUNK — Two defendants in the Zumba prostitution case, Mark Strong and Alexis Wright, are asking for separate trials.
The Portsmouth Herald says the two filed motions on Friday.
Strong's attorney Daniel Lilley and Sarah Churchill, representing Wright, said in their separate motions they were responding to an Oct. 9 notice filed by York County Deputy District Attorney Justina McGettigan saying the state intended to try both at the same time.
Lilley says Strong's case should be divided from Wright's because she's facing felony charges while Strong's been charged with only misdemeanors.
Strong, of Thomaston, faces 59 charges ranging from promotion of prostitution to violation of privacy. Wright, of Wells, is facing 106 charges, including tax evasion, prostitution and violation of privacy.
Both had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Also on Friday, Kennebunk police released 15 more names of accused clients in the case, bringing the total to 54. Police Lt. Anthony Bean Burpee says more names will be released after Thanksgiving week.
