Well, the gays and lesbians finally convinced enough weak minds to win their agenda. At least now I don't have to put up with parents/grandparents crying on television to give their children a chance to marry and have a life that they have had, if that is possible.
So-called Catholics, Christians and the one behind this should all bow their heads in shame. Marriage, as it was meant to be (along with life in general), is what you make of it. It is very sad to see so many that haven't succeeded at either one.
People have never seen God, and many could care less about him, but it is time to reflect that without him and the miracle of birth, none of us would be here. For that reason alone, I believe he deserves to be treated and respected a lot better than this.
About 50 years ago, the communist leaders in the Soviet Union said that someday they would take over this country without firing a shot. Domestic problems would cause many people to revolt. The way this country is going, and going back three or four decades, I am inclined to believe those words.
Maine has had bad ratings of late. Now, it will be on the map for being one of the 10 states allowing same-sex marriages. For the growing population, that doesn't serve as a good role model.
I thank those who had enough good sense to vote "no" on Question 1.

Prepare to be mocked,
Prepare to be mocked, vilified and accused of anything they can get away with saying, Louis, for the ungodly will not be silenced.

of anything they can get away with saying"? Rather, be prepared for the pious evasions of Mr. St. Jean, who doesn't seem to have been quite up to blessing the Lord for the hideous deaths of the 48 Egyptian kindergarteners recently that I mentioned in my first comment on your letter--let alone the victims of the Holocaust! It's clear: If I'm "getting away with saying" what I said there, he has only himself to blame, since he's chosen not to attempt a refutation. To repeat Job 1:21:
"The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away; blessed be the name of the Lord."
Today's serving of Xtian Balderdash from Martin Luther, father of Protestantism and bellowing champion of the Bible (and ONLY the Bible). This citation comes from On the Bondage of the Will, a work which, together with his Catechism, he prized as his best:
"Man is like a horse. Does God leap into the saddle? The horse is obedient . . . Does God throw down the reins? Then Satan leaps upon the back of the animal . . . The will cannot choose its rider and cannot kick against the spur that pricks it. It must go on, and its very docility is a disobedience or a sin [!!!] The only struggle possible is between the two riders . . . Let the Christian, then, know that God foresees nothing contingently, but that He foresees, proposes and acts from His internal [sic; eternal?] and immutable will. This is the thunderbold that shatters and destroys free will. Hence it comes to pass that whatever happens [not excluding the obliteration of 48 Egyptian kindergarteners] happens according to the irreversible decrees of God. Therefore, necessity, not free will, is the controlling principle of our conduct. GOD IS THE AUTHOR OF WHAT IS EVIL IN US as well as of what is good, and, as He bestows happiness on those who merit it not, SO ALSO DOES HE DAMN OTHERS WHO DESERVE NOT THEIR FATE." (all emphases and ellipses mine; nothing pertinent omitted)
Blessed be the name of the Lord? Thank you, No.

Absence of response to your previous comment blaming God for such a tragedy was not by accident. You can indulge in your Biblical bloviations all you want, but you will evoke little response from me or anyonone else. Entertain yourself with your ungodliness. You deserve it, and as I previously stated to the letter writer; the ungodly will not be silenced.
Happy Thanksgiving, or is that too religious for you as well?

suit yourself.
Do try to say a little prayer for me to your god--but only if it comes from the heart, as he demands no less of you. Good luck with that.
I didn't blame god, BTW, since I don't believe in him. Take the matter up with your fellow Bible-believer, Martin Luther, whose words I quoted you may want to reread.

You seem to spend a great deal of time flapping your gums over an entity that doesn't exist, or that you refuse to believe exists. If you're correct, why do you spend so much time professing your disbelief to believers? What makes you think they care?
BTW--Your so-called reference to my "evasiveness" is becoming annoying, not to mention meaningless. I've told you once before, that due to hate-speech laws that exist in our country, and being a member of one of the unprotected classes, I have no intention of getting into a verbal pissing match with a gay man who has a chip on his shoulder against God and straight people. I'll not be responding again to anything you post.

is a tad dramatic & paranoid.
You wonder why I spend so much time flapping my gums over an entity that I "refuse" to believe exists (LOL). Last I checked, writers of letters to the editor who count themselves Xtians far outnumber the infidels; if they're correct, why do they feel compelled to flap their own gums over their god?
I'm sorry my reference to your evasiveness annoys you, but meaningless it is not. Get a clue.
I don't have a chip on my shoulder, as you're pleased to imagine, about your god & straight people. I believe your god is just as much a colossal bogeyman as Allah, Shiva, & Zeus. It was the American atheist poet Wallace Stevens who said, "The death of one god is the death of all gods." As for straight people, I have no problem whatsoever with them--excepting the pious homophobes among them. Like you.
Glad to hear you're folding your tent.

You mean the all-good, all-knowing, all-powerful god who just recently saw to the deaths of 48 utterly innocent Egyptian kindergarteners en route to school in a bus that was slammed by a speeding train? That the god you're referring to??
"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night . . . Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky. Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as God Himself. Never." (Elie Wiesel, Jewish-American author, reflecting on his childhood spent in the Nazi camps)
Goodness me, I just remembered: "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away; blessed be the name of the Lord" (Job 1:21).

The end of the Wiesel quote should read: " . . . even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself."
