WATERVILLE — Police say a 30-year-old Winslow man shot and killed another man in the street after a confrontation outside the "You Know Who's Pub" Tuesday night.

Matthew Partridge has been charged with murder and taken to the Kennebec County Jail, State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release.

Police say Partridge shot shot Justin V. Smith, 26, of China, at about 11 p.m. He died after being rushed to MaineGeneral.

McCausland said witness reports indicated a pickup truck left the scene after the shooting. Partridge was arrested by State Police along Route 8 in Smithfield driving his pickup a short time later.

It's not believed the two men knew each other prior to Tuesday night, he said.
