Truckload of Christmas delivers gifts to Auburn children

Jose Leiva/Sun Journal

Owen Burbank, 4, of Auburn tears into a gift delivered by Santa Claus (Auburn firefighter Jim Hart) on Thursday. Santa paid Owen a special visit, arriving at his home on Winter Street by firetruck. Auburn Fire Department Pvt. Jim Hart, Lt. Chris Andreasen and Pvt. Mitch Sperry helped with the Truckload of Christmas program, making toy deliveries the past few days to 16 families with a total of 40 children. Members of the International Association of Firefighters Local 797 in Auburn make contributions to the Children's Fund through payroll deductions, the annual Firemen's Ball in March and private donations. The fund is for programs that support children, including Truckload of Christmas. "We have been doing the Truckload of Christmas for six years," Andreasen said. "We don't want children to go without Christmas presents."

Great Photo (and effort by the AFD)

I am a cranky conservative and often critical of the Sun-Journal's content, but this photo just hit me in a powerful manner this morning. True joy and anticipation on this young fella's face. It's what Christmas is all about as it makes for a better season for all of us. Snapped at just the perfect moment by Joe Leiva.

I am very pleased to be a citizen of Auburn when I see the AFD undertaking such a special project.
