Police find firearms at felon's home in Jay

JAY — A Look Brook Circle resident was arrested Friday on a charge of possession of firearms by a felon.

The Police Department received information that Scott McAlpine, 48, of Jay, who is prohibited from having firearms, might have them at his residence, Detective Richard Caton IV said.

McAlpine has felony convictions for burglary and forgery and is not allowed to have guns, he said.

Police got a search warrant and checked his home Friday and found three firearms. McAlpine was arrested and taken to Franklin County Jail late Friday afternoon.

Jay police and officers from the Maine Warden Service helped with the search, Caton said.

223,000,00 guns = 300,000

223,000,00 guns = 300,000 people. What does that mean, exactly?

Steve?

You're quick to insult and to assign me a sign... but you didn't answer the question.

Please explain to me how more gun control laws are going to keep guns out of the hands of felons?

Do felons know that they're not supposed to have firearms? Yes. Do they obtain them illegally anyway? Yes.

Laws are like locks, they're for honest people. If you're going to break a law, it will be regardess of the penalty. If you're going to break into a house, you'll do so regardless of the lock.

More gun control laws will only keep guns out of the hands of responsible owners who will follow the law. Those who want weapons will always be able to purchase them one way or another.

When is enough enough? Ask that to any collector. I collect vintage watches. I'll never have enough. Some collect cars. Some collect women. Some collect money. It is not the govenment's job to tell me how many watches I can own. Nor cars, nor knives, nor money, nor guns.

I would also like to point out that nothing in the story bears any reference to assault-style weapons. For all we know, he could have had 3 little pea-shooters, or 3 Howitzers... It makes no difference, because any firearm is illegal to a felon.

Lastly, I would like to point out that I completely understand what happened in CT. A young man stole his mother's guns, which she obtained legally, and went on a rampage ending in the deaths of children, adults and himself. Tragic all the way around, but not the gun's or the gun owner's fault.

What

What does melting them down have to do with anything?

Melt 'em Down....

Render them completely inoperable.
