Thank you for your revealing editorial of Jan. 16 reference research and gun violence.
In a related matter on Jan. 16, Wayne LaPierre and his leaders and Rush Limbaugh reached a new low with the NRA TV ad focused on the Obama children and Limbaugh ridiculing the children who were guests of the president at his news conference.
Sensible citizens have had enough. If we care about the values and direction of our country we should support the president’s recommendations for gun safety. Military style assault weapons should be banned again. This time with no loopholes. All gun sales should clear meaningful background checks. Bullet magazines should be limited to very few rounds. And mental health services should be included in all health insurance policies.
Among several other pressing decisions, the GOP should decide if it is to be the party for guns or the party for people.
Richard H. Lee Jr., Turner
Republicans and conservatives are the party that supports...
our US Constitution as written and amended over our history.
If you think our Constitution needs amending, take the proper steps to do it so that all Americans have a say, not just those who want to do knee-jerk jumping jacks and curry political favor.
This issue of "Executive Orders" is a slippery slop toboggan ride to no place good for America.
I hope Americans don't stand for it and let their elected officials know it loud and clear, by letter, by phonecalls and emails as well as at the ballot box.

Perhaps a sensible citizen would not generalize and realize there rare republicans that support some tighten of gun regulation, such as background checks.
Perhaps a sensible citizen would realize that the majority of gun deaths involve handguns, not assault weapons.
Perhaps a sensible citizen would realize that both Democrats and Republicans support gun ownership; this includes assault weapons.

It is a sad when people think working hard and earning money is a bad thing. Success and freedom is demonized. I find it humorous that this attitude did not openly flourish until Obama was elected president. The word sheep comes to mind. You and your kind will get their comeuppance when the wealth creators leave.

I learned to tell the difference when I was a cop. I too am a gun owner.
I earn money, but I don't consider my book-selling business work. I wake up in the morning, check my eMails -and occasionally have a book order. More often than not from overseas where they have the $$ and appreciate rare old books. I'm paid electronically, and live right next door to the little post office here. This is work???

I have a hobby that allows me to take advantage of "tax loopholes", which in turn lowers my property taxed. I also earn money, but rather have the government tax the producers and redistribute that money into paying for my medical care and a plethora of other services that benefit me.

Same property tax. And no business deductions on the house nor utilities.
So you weren't in the military long enough to earn retirement benefits (medical) for your family. Sucks being you.

There is nothing wrong with that; moreover, I have bipartisan support. Perhaps with some financial planning, you could have partake in that tax advantage - like having a savings account.
