Firefighters battle a blaze at 48 Pleasant St. in Lewiston on Thursday night.

When fire crews arrived at 48 Pleasant St. at about 10:20 p.m., fire was blowing from the windows of a second-floor porch.

The apartment was occupied at the time, a witness said, but it appeared everybody got out of the building without harm.

The two-story apartment house is near the corner of Pleasant Street and Webber Avenue. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames and spared damage to nearby buildings. The fire was declared under control at 10:40 p.m.

Crews remained at the scene later Thursday night, snuffing out hot spots and preparing to begin an investigation.

Fire

Good that nobody was hurt. It's at times like these, in weather conditions like these that I don't envy firefighters. Battling fire is dangerous enough but when you must contend with single digit temperatures and wind chills well below zero on top of it, I take my hat off to the men and women who are willing to do that job.

What?

That's what it says: Pleasant Street and Webber Avenue.
Okay, you got me. I just changed it. Good catch. Those two streets trip me up all the time.
