RUMFORD — Robert J. “Bob” Gallant, 62, of South Rumford Road, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, at his residence. following a long illness.
He was born in Rumford on Oct. 17, 1950, a son of Lewis A. and Marguerite (Belanger) Gallant.
Bob was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1970. After graduation, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force with the K-9 unit, serving four years. Bob was a sergeant with the Mexico Police Department and was seat belt instructor and elder crime officer. He retired in 2005 after 25 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, storytelling and playing cards with his friends. Bob was a daily visitor at Dick’s Restaurant, where he met and socialized with his many friends.
Surviving are his three children, Brian M. Gallant of Mexico, Heidi M. Gray and husband, Daniel, of Livermore Falls, and Kyle J. Gallant of Mexico; brothers, William L. Gallant and wife, Beverly, of Dixfield, and James K. “Smokie” Gallant and wife, Karen, of Rumford; grandchildren, Dylan L. Gallant, Claudia M. Gallant and Riley M. Gray; great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Gallant; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and three brothers, Kenneth, Timothy and Stephen.
