Gov. Paul LePage announced during his State of the State address he would issue an executive order to create a task force that will look at making sure Maine's gun laws, as they pertain to domestic violence, are enforced.
AUGUSTA — As promised in his State of the State speech, Gov. Paul LePage has signed an executive order establishing a task force to address domestic violence in Maine.
LePage says the task force will look for ways to ensure that existing laws and court orders are enforced effectively to keep weapons away from domestic abusers.
He signed the order a day after Tuesday's State of the State address and released details Thursday as part of Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Day at the State House.
The task force will review existing laws and practices to ensure that court-issued protection from abuse orders are effective in protecting victims. The governor says he's not interested in laws that infringe upon the ability of law-abiding citizens to own guns.

This is a tough one
Just how do you get a criminal to obey the law and not use a gun? Well, you can't stop him the first time, but you can lock him long enough that there won't be a second time. There isn't a law written that will stop a criminal.
