A. Elze: Where is the transparency?

It looks like the Benghazi attack had its 15 minutes of fame and has now receded into a footnote in history, like the Fast and Furious fiasco.

Former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton testified that she didn't know ahead of time of an impending attack in Benghazi, Libya. That flies in the face of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs "Flashing Red" report that became available in December 2012.

In that report, there was evidence that "Benghazi was increasingly dangerous and unstable" months before the attack. And no one took any action.

Information began coming in February 2012 up until the attack, and went to the highest levels of the State Department. At least four attacks had been carried out at Benghazi, at other embassies and the Red Cross during those seven months.

It was already understood that the Libyan government wasn't capable of protecting U.S. interests. Why did no one do anything?

The Obama administration misled the American people about it being a spontaneous attack due to a anti-Muslim movie and what they did about it once it occurred.

When is the transparency the president promised in 2008 going to appear?

Revisiting Benghazi

Let's revisit Benghazi
On Wed. Jan.23, 2013, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton faced the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Since the successful attack on Susan Rice, it was predictable that the questioning of Clinton would be similar. Republican Senators Corker, Menendez, Johnson, and Rand Paul desperately tried to incriminate Clinton to cover up the fact that the GOP cut the security budget leaving the embassy unprotected. It was Rep. Darrel Issa ( R-Cal ) who on Friday Oct. 19, 2012, publicly unveiled CIA operational bases in Libya on CSPAN TV, and subsequently released 166 pages of sensitive information to the media identifying names and information on CIA assets inside Libya including the embassy annex in Benghazi.
House Republicans voted in 2009 to cut $1.2 billion from State Dept. operations, including funds for 300 more diplomatic security positions. Ryan’s budget also made $400 million in cuts to embassy security.
The GOP cut $1.13 billion from the 2013 Security Protection program. Then cut embassy security funding by $128 million in fiscal 2011 and $331 million in fiscal 2012. The Senate restored $88 million to the program.
Last year, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that proposed cuts to her department would be “detrimental to America’s national security.” A charge Republicans rejected.
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R ) Utah was asked on CNN if he voted to cut embassy security funding : Chaffetz: “Absolutely. Look, we have to make priorities and choices in this country. Think about this, we have 15,000 contractors in Iraq. We have more than a 6,000 contractor private army for President Obama in Baghdad, and we’re talking about can we get two dozen or so people into Libya to help protect our forces? When you’re in tough economic times, you have to prioritize.” Google it!
During Rep. Darrel Issa's (R) California April, 2007 meeting with Bashar Assad of Syria, he confessed his support and admiration of Hezbollah, who killed 260 U.S. Marines in Beirut Lebanon, and tortured and killed Col. Richard Kelly and CIA attache' William Buckley. So after the events in Benghazi the Republicans go after Secretary of State Clinton and Susan Rice? Absolutely predictable!

The truth

The fact of the matter is that Stevens was caught in a planned ambush.

Ambassador Stevens knew the region as well as anyone did, having worked there for the better part of a decade. If he felt it was dangerous enough that he would have needed to bring a Marine security detachment, he wouldn't have gone. The militants planned their ambush well.

It has been well documented

It has been well documented that Ambassador Stevens had requested help from Washington and his requests were ignored or denied.
