ALFRED (AP) — A 31-year-old Maine man has surrendered to police nearly two days after escaping while being placed under arrest.
The York County Sheriff's Department said Kevin Lawlor of Standish turned himself in Tuesday night. He was charged with receipt of stolen property and escape.
Officials say a deputy stopped Lawlor's pickup truck at about 1:15 a.m. Monday in Cornish and put Lawlor in his cruiser in handcuffs after spotting precious metals in the back of the truck that was suspected to have been stolen.
When the deputy turned his back, Lawlor escaped from the back of the cruiser and fled while wearing the handcuffs.
A passenger in Lawlor's truck was arrested for possession of stolen property.
The sheriff's department said $10,000 worth of stolen metal has been recovered.
