Farmington school locked down due to upset parent

FARMINGTON — Cascade Brook School was locked down for a short time Thursday when the principal felt threatened by an upset parent and called police.

Police Chief Jack Peck said Friday that during a telephone conversation about lunchtime between a father and Principal Nichole Goodspeed, the man indicated he was on his way to the school.

Goodspeed called police and two Farmington officers and three Franklin County deputies arrived before the parent, Peck said. Police talked with the "highly agitated" man, who calmed down and left, he said.

Students were kept in their classrooms until the man left, RSU 9 Superintendent Michael Cormier said.

There was no information released about why the man was upset, but Cormier said that as of Friday, the issue had been resolved.

Goodspeed sent a note to parents Thursday, altering them of the lockdown and explaining that "to assure the safety of the staff and students, the police were called to the school." She advised that students were safe and there was minimal disruption to instruction.

According to one Cascade Brook School student, lockdown procedures have been practiced since the December shooting at an elementary school Newtown, Conn. The student said she was hardly aware of the situation Thursday.

Good for the parent. More

Good for the parent. More people need to stand up to the arrogant bullies running the school system.

Good move

Better safe than sorry.

It doesn't take long for anger and frustration to turn to rage.
