Logging trucks weigh in at Jay Transfer Station

Logging trucks heading to Verso Paper Corp. in Jay get weighed at the Jay Transfer Station on Tuesday. The paper mill's scales were undergoing maintenance and the town allowed them to use the station's scales. Jay police and firefighters directed traffic. The mill's scales were ready for use on Tuesday afternoon, a mill spokeswoman said.

Jay police and firefighters direct traffic Tuesday afternoon when more than 30 loaded logging trucks lined Jay Hill and Route 4 trying to get into the Jay Transfer Station to be weighed, police officer Nicholas Gulliver said. Verso Paper Corp.'s truck scales were being maintained, spokeswoman Cherilee Budrick said. The company was grateful Jay allowed them to use theirs, she said. The mill's scales were back on line Tuesday afternoon.

At one point there were more than 30 logging trucks lining both sides of Jay Hill, police officer Nicholas Gulliver said. The mill's scales were back on line Tuesday afternoon.
