WATERVILLE (AP) — A 38-year-old Waterville man who spent time in prison for the 1989 murder of his mother has been charged with attempted gross sexual assault.
Waterville police Sgt. Daniel Goss said Scott L. Thompson allegedly entered Maurices women's clothing store at about 8 p.m. Friday and burst into one of the changing rooms.
Goss told the Morning Sentinel that Thompson shoved a woman against the wall, but she resisted and called for help. Thompson fled and was arrested a short distance away.
Thompson was convicted of murder in 1991 for the stabbing death of his mother, Edith Thompson, in her East Winthrop mobile home. He was arrested last summer for breaking into an adult novelty store soon after being released from prison on the murder conviction.

WTH, he was convicted in 1991 for murdering his own mother and was set free last year????!!!
Now he's committed 2 more crimes since then (that we know of). Another good reason for Maine to have a "three strikes your out law". Legislators...are you listening yet? This guy is obviously a career criminal, and a vicious one at that...

For murdering your mother I would be in favor of a "one strike and your out law". But you would think that when someone is just released from prison that they would get sent right back if they commit ONE crime. I am sure that to get out of prison he had to tell a parole board that he had changed, seen the light, turned over a new leaf, would be a model citizen, and would never kill his mother again. Committing a crime shows that he lied. Send him back.

Where does it say he's on parole? Maine abolished parole, so I assume he served his sentence. It goes to show that prison does not rehabilitate, but merely punish. That's fine if you're going to keep people locked up forever, but if you're ever going to release them, then prepare them for release, don't just let them go and say good luck.
