Heard on the street: We asked, 'Should LePage seek a second term?'

LEWISTON — Gov. Paul LePage's recent rape analogy in reference to a Democratic lawmaker made national news. And last week, after state legislators voted to override the budget LePage had vetoed, he said he may not run for a second term.

We asked the lunch crowd at Gridiron Restaurant and Sports Pub on Lisbon Street: "What do you think of LePage, and do you think he should run again?"

Roger LaRoche of Auburn: “I don't think he's doing a very good job. I think he should stay out of politics.”

Noella Breton of Lewiston: “I definitely don't think he should run for a second term. As governor, he's trying to do good things, but he does not have a very good way of going about it. He is absolutely rough around the edges.”

Nina Thiboutot of Brunswick: “I don't think he should run again. I don't think he has any etiquette when he gives his views. He has a very poor choice of words. I am ashamed he is our governor.”

Cindy Godin of Sabattus: “I like the governor. I think he should run a second time. I like that he came from a poor background; he had to work his way up. He's strong.”

Kay Gionet of Sabattus: “I like him. I think he's doing a great job. He's very honest. He's trying to help the state get out of the financial problems we're in. Sometimes he could use more tact, but he's the type of person who says it the way it is. I have no problem with that.”

Caleb Fournier of Sabattus. “I'm not a big fan of him. He makes some harsh judgment calls. He doesn't really work with the Senate and the government. I think he should try to work harder, not make it all about politics, make the state of Maine better. I would be happy if he didn't run.”

Wendell Millett of Lisbon: “I think he's a very good governor. Sometimes his comments come out wrong. Yes, I would (like to see him run). I'm a Republican.”

I think LePage should move to Florida. He keeps using Florida programs as ideas for Maine. He loves Florida. I don't see that he has any fondness for Maine and its people.

Oh he loves Florida! Lepage

Oh he loves Florida! Lepage and his wife falsely claimed Florida residency so their kids could get in-state tuition. They got caught because it also triggered a homestead tax exemption.

Adios Pablo

The train has left the station on the wrong track and the LePage caboose is a disaster wreck looking for a place to happen and it will crash and burn.

It is crystal clear had this been a Dem making all those stupid immature, obscene crude remarks and actions, Repubs would be screaming at the top of their lungs for removal, claiming the man is unfit for any office, that is where the rubber hits the road.....

Those repubs and costume teabag wearing half repubs that disagree will be proof to say ....they lie to support that train, the man that has huge issues with his adolescent actions and mouth...

Hypocrisy at its fullest swing.....they would lie to gawd to save face...

you'll regret it

Mr. Lepage may not be your run of the mill politician, but that is what makes him who he is. He tells you like it is, what we need to do to straighten out this God forsaken state. He vetos bills most likely because those fat cat politicians throw in their smaller things either to help their county, or to fill their own pockets. Maybe they all are against him because he's finally rattling the cage and trying to get those out of there who's been there way too long, I say we put him back in a second term, and ALL act as ONE instead of voting for your party just because you are in that party. If we had no democrats & or republicans, we might not have half the problems we have now.

This is not leading....

How is "telling you like it is" [sic] good leadership? How is insulting, bullying, and bitching and moaning about the very people you need in order to get things done your way leadership? How can you promote a state about which you have almost nothing good to say? Are the businesses going to go to a State where the leader says "we have a great state and we're committed to making it pleasant to do business here" or the one where the leader says "Our State is a giant suck-hole and out of state colleges laugh at our graduates and Forbes says we're a terrible place to be"? A company in which the employees are intimidated into performance and not respected is a company doomed to failure. And right now, that is the State of Maine.

The man is incompetent for the job. Every time he opens his mouth he proves it.

I am NOT saying he is the

I am NOT saying he is the best man for the job, I am just stating that he is no puppet in the government with a hand up his behind saying whatever the other fatcats wants him to say. And all these guys in the "government" who wants a bill passed but ever so quietly sneaks in all these smaller things to benefit their own ass, and Mr. Lepage vetos it then HE'S the bum who vetos it. All in all I'm plain old sick of our (and all other) people running the state. Everyone will be happy when they elect s guy (or girl) who will be a "yes Man" and do whatever the senate tells him to do and say. Screw the little guy!!!!!

Rape analogy???? Really??

"Gov. Paul LePage's recent rape analogy in reference to a Democratic lawmaker made national news. "

Where on earth is "giving it to the people without vaseline" a rape analogy? This is an innuendo not a 'rape' analogy. Why must people turn things into what they want to make someone look/sound bad? Grow up Maine. Get real and most of all, don't put inappropriate thoughts into people's minds. You reporters make me sick. Gov. LePage is doing a good job by telling it like it is and we need to have more people just like him to tell it like it is. If you don't like people telling it like it is, then go somewhere else and live or turn off your hearing aids. He's trying to fix this run down state and it's very obvious that there are some who do not want change or for this state to be fixed. It's people like you, (reporter's, a lot of our Representatives, Congressmen and Senators) that are driving the younger generation out of here. Someone has to be here to take care of your aging mind and body because you will not be able to do so. You will not be able to make the right decisions anymore either. Careful Maine...you are losing in more ways than one.

JERRY ARIPEZ's picture

Failure within your own words

Someone has to be here to take care of your aging mind and body because you will not be able to do so. That someone is not LePage!!!!!!!

Healthcare being denied by Republicans, meaning they are supporting and calling for killing those that are sick and need health care....this is where you lose peoples support and they are leaving the party of the repubs, for not only this but, also college students debt, immigration, dreamers act, LGBT, abortion all other social issues etc.

You are on the road of no return with dust leaving a cloudy trail....

'Should LePage seek a second term?'

Bonnie and Mark ? 21:21 Sat. night hst ?
l o l. . . .What a political season it has been . What with a recalcitrant governor who does not like anything or anybody or any idea not of his own rather simplistic and unguarded nature , mouth , and brain
Honesty is not always the best policy
If one were to say to someone else on the street ( by the name of Paul , let's say , " Boy are you fat ," one might be telling the truth but it wouldn't be a very politic pronoucement now would it ?
Suggestion ; Have your governor and his republican friends - not - pass your ME state budget and then he and his cronies can be sent directly to jail by a judge ( not of their choosing ) to cool their heels for a while for ' con†empt of state .' There is no ' get out of jail ' free card from the orange ' chance ' or yellow ' community chest ' pile in this game . Everyone suffers
