M. Morin: A dangerous man

Back in April of 2012, it was reported on Fox News that President Barack Obama claimed he had cut taxes for 95 percent of all taxpayers. That's some feat when about half the population already doesn't pay any income tax. Where is the money going to come from to pay for the tens of thousands of new federal employment jobs added since Obama's election?

A survey I just received from Hillsdale College in Michigan mentioned that, under Obama's leadership, the government is now building 159 new agencies to administer Obamacare, and is hiring some 16,000 new IRS agents to enforce it.

When radio host Paul Smith asked Congressman John Dingell, D-Mich., why it will take the government until 2014 to fully set up the Obamacare system, Dingell answered, "It takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people."

Meanwhile, the liberal media continue to refuse to report anything negative about Obama, whom I consider to be an extremely dangerous man.

God help us.

Marcel Morin, Auburn

Hillsdale is a conservative school.

The Princeton review ranks it #2 for conservative students.
I'm not saying their study is wrong, but I can't find a link to it to check.

Oh, and I think the rest of your rant is silly too.

A dangerous man

God help you Mr Morin , if you actually believe what you wrote!

What scandals are you referring to? Because so far all those that your people have attempted to turn into scandals... aren't.

Mr. Morin...

I know you're selling, and I'm not buying. I do admit I am still leery about Obama's health care plan because it was fast tracked through and, being such a comprehensive bill I would have liked to see it fine tuned some before it passed. That being said, Obama was aggressive with his promise to bring health care to all and I do believe everyone will benefit in the long run. As far as cost is concerned, this country spent billions on a war that never should have been waged. The difference between these two actions of different presidents is the war was not a need. Universal health care is and I respect Obama's efforts in aggressively making it his top priority. Is Obama perfect? No, far from it, however he's the man in the driver's seat and while he's sitting in that seat I will support him.

Its a shame conservatives are so gullible

"...Hillsdale College is unapologetically conservative." Hillsdale in its survey writes that it does not take government funds meaning that it can violate anti-discrimination policies among others.
perhaps that's a different survey from the one Mr. Morin mentions because the survey does not mention 159 new agencies (a lie). or 16,000 new IRS employees to enforce Obamacare. The 16,000 new employees was debunked years ago because its pure invention. A GOP staffer calculated that if the IRS spent all the additional money they testified they would need to enforce Obama care ($5 - $10 billion) on hiring people; they could hire about 16,000. The earliest information I can find shows that IRS employment has decreased from 112,000 in 1994 to 106,000 in 2010 although the number of people employed has varied greatly. In fact, most of the money would be spent on computer systems not employees.

Ah yes, one piece I missed in my debunking below..

What does Marcel Morin really tell us????

Second hand "Hearsay" information with no reliable citings.

i.e. "it was reported on Fox News that President Barack Obama claimed he had cut taxes for 95 percent of all taxpayers."

Morin goes on to relate that to the "Income Tax" - but that's not what he referred to earlier - he said "all taxpayers" - there are many more federal taxes than merely the federal income tax. But Marcel didn't quote or cite Fox's source - so we don't know what was really stated.

Curious about that Hillsdale College Survey Marcel claims he received? Marcel writes it states "the government is now building 159 new agencies to administer Obamacare". One hundred and fifty-nine new agencies? Wow!!

Check Google - hundreds of right-wing conservative sites mention the 15

Where may have that ever came from??? A little research indicates that on Feb 25, 2010 - the House Republican Majority website posted a list of 159 programs programs created in the 2,733 page Senate health care bill, which serves as the framework for President Obama’s health proposal, entitliong it: 159 Ways the Senate Bill Is a Government Takeover of Health Care

How easily the Republican Party morphs "159 Programs" into "169 Agencies."

Misrepresentation and lying - what they do best.

And folks like Marcel never question - nor have the intellectual curiosity - to dig deep into what they hear.

So Marcel doesn't know the difference between "Taxes" and "Income Taxes" along with "Programs" and "Agencies"

He's worried about the so-called 'Liberal Media' and he doesn't even have his own cranium in order?? Poor Marcel!!!

So the sky is still falling and Obama is the creature from the deep who will devour your children and the heroes in this fictional tale are the Libertarians. While they claim to hate government they nevertheless scheme and struggle to achieve power in said government and when they get it they use it to hurt people. Just look at what they have done so far. In some states they are imposing some kind of Christian Sharia law on women. They have blocked equal wages for women and in some states have impeded voting rights for minorities. In other states they have turned back worker rights and work tirelessly to make the minimum wage more minimum, to kill programs that help veterans go college and to kill any worker benefits. They look to make education private, for the elite, and to turn it into cultural brainwashing., all the while creating exceptions and loopholes to the law for themselves and their financial supporters. Everything they do once they gain power shows how fond they are of totalitarian government and how much contempt they have for democratic principles. No wonder they have to scare people into supporting them.

Where is the money going to come from?

The good news is that, according to the Obama administration, the rich will pay for everything. The bad news is that, according to the Obama administration, you're rich.

For the big boys, it's now 2015, by unconstitutional imperial edict, so the most horrible aspects of ObamaCare won't be seen by most people until after the mid-term elections.

Constitution not broken

The affordable health care law passed the congress and the Supreme court (NO imperial edict) -- the constitution is intact and working just fine.
Just what are these "horrible aspects" you seem to believe will cause the complete downfall of the USA? Many parts are already in effect and we are still standing !

Mr Morin -

If people are not paying taxes, they are not taxpayers. I am on Social Security, 75 and partially disabled. I assume, since I did not pay taxes for the first time last year, you would like that stopped. At what tax rate would you like me to pay?

David Cote's picture

In my opinion, Mr. Woodbury...

You are square with the house, sir.

CRYSTAL WARD's picture

Whats your plan

"for 95 percent of all taxpayers"-- read carefully --it say 95% of taxpayers not 95% of all people. This statement is accurate.
The latest unemployment info states that the sector losing the most jobs is the Gov't sector because of the sequester.
It sure would be helpful if the Republicans would put their money where their month is on health care for the uninsured and tell us THEIR plan to deal with this situation and stop the foolish time wasting Political theater of voting it down 37 time !! WHAT is the republican plan !!!
This sound just like the republican outcry when Social Security was put in and the "sky was going to fall" and American was going to fold.
Where you see negative I see positive .

 's picture

The latest numbers ...

... project that, when the dust settles, there will still be 30 million people, or more, without health insurance of any kind. It would be much more helpful if the Democrats would explain why their plan utterly fails on its primary goal. This must be what Baroness Pelosi meant. They had to pass it so we all could see how terrible it is.

When everything is negative, that's all one can see.

The quote from Dingell is

The quote from Dingell is quite revealing – “..control the people.”
Government is all about force. Just look to the freedoms we lost over the past 5 years and look at how the Obama administration uses the government as a tool against its citizens – IRS, NSA, big-data collection, and now scanning and storing mail.

What is going to be next? What freedoms will we lose next? It is time to stand up and start rolling back the powers of government peaceful while (and if) we still can.

RONALD RIML's picture

What Freedoms have we lost over the last five year????

Care to detail them with the appropriate citings...................

You need to stop listening to people who get paid to scare you into voting for conservative candidates. Most of it is not true and all that anxiety is unhealthy. Obama is not any more dangerous than the guy who lied us into an unfunded trillion dollar, ten year war, had a security lapse that resulted in a terrorist attack on our largest city, watched our third largest city go underwater and did nothing and crashed the world economy. Compared to that Obama is positively lamb like. In fact he is constantly being accused of being "soft" on terrorism. So turn off the radio and relax. You are being played.

MARK GRAVEL's picture

Let's deal with the

Let's deal with the contemporary government, not the past administration.

Your ad hominem is showing.

Can you make any other kind of comment? For example, try this: What items mentioned in the letter are not true IYHO?

How about all of them?

On the tax cuts for 95%, Politifact rated true:

Point of order: most of those workers who are not paying income taxes still pay payroll taxes, and those were reduced. The rest of the not-taxed are elderly or other exempted classes.

Taxes on unemployment benefits were also reduced.

Re: "159 new federal agencies". The only confirmation I could find for this claim were from right-wing blogs and "news" sites. But even the site that did list the potential bodies created by the ACA, Save Your Rights, did not call them federal agencies. They are mostly boards and commissions, most of which will likely fall under existing agencies (primarily HHS would be my guess), and some of the bodies mentioned are at the State level, not the federal level. I am not saying whether this is good or bad, I am only evaluation the truth of his statements. I'll give Marcel half-true on this, since entities are (theoretically) created by the bill, but they are not federal agencies.

Dingell says he was taken out of context, and he was referring to the insurance companies.
Since there are no full transcripts of the interview and no audio of the interview in full that I can find, I can't say f this is true or if it's a LePage style "well this is what he actually meant to say" statement. This one's a push. I think our own Governor shows that when you speak without a script, there are those who tend to stick their foot in it.

"Liberal Media refuse to report anything negative about Obama." Well, this can be taken two ways, and both ways are wrong.

If he using the painting all of the mainstream media that's not Fox (and as the most-watched cable news outlet, it would be hard to argue they're not "mainstream) as Liberal, this is untrue in so many ways as to be disproven by any simple google search. Could not a report about Republican Congressmen be considered a negative report about Obama? Those show up in print constantly.

If he's referring to the truly liberal media, which would be the National Review, liberal blogs like Kos and HuffPo and the like, they too have taken Obama to task for actions they consider too conservative for their taste. There was actual fear that he could lose because of the far-lefties he has offended over the last 4 years, since he did not bow to their every want and desire..

Ronald loves big government.

Ronald loves big government. Moreover, Ronald spent twenty years in an organization predicated on control of others, so his support of a large controlling government is understandable albeit dangerous.

One just has to look toward the IRS, NAS, and big-data collection to see what direction the government is moving.

RONALD RIML's picture

It's a bummer - I've worn contacts since 10th grade - 1962

God knows how I got into the Navy.... 20/400 - they couldn't turn down my superior intellect ;) - I probably tested through MEPS with my contacts on and mouth shut.

Once I hit that certain age it was reading glasses over the contacts. Older glasses like coke bottle glasses - newer ones - technology pretty good - got away from trifocals and much thinner bifocals.

Can buy somewhat decent 'Reading Glasses' of various strengths for different tasks at Reny's for $2.99 - work out well for my really 'fine' hobby work.

I wouldn't even wish lousy eyesight on you, Mein Frenemy.....
