Kerry aboard yacht during Egypt coup

As the crisis in Egypt unfolded this past week, a far more minor intrigue arose in Nantucket: Was Secretary of State John Kerry on a yacht Wednesday or not?

Briefly, he was.

On the same day that Egypt's military ousted the country's first democratically elected leader, a CBS News producer snapped a picture of a yacht and reported that Kerry was aboard. The State Department called that report "completely inaccurate" but did not elaborate on the secretary's whereabouts, saying only that he was working all day and phoned in to a Situation Room meeting on Egypt that afternoon.

After the yacht photo was published, the Boston Herald began tracking Kerry's whereabouts on the Massachusetts island. On Thursday, the paper photographed the former senator walking down Federal Street, following this with pictures of him getting into a kayak that same day.

"While he was briefly on his boat on Wednesday," State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki said Friday, "Secretary Kerry worked around the clock all day, including participating in the president's meeting with his National Security Council and calls with Norwegian Foreign Minister Eade, Qatari Foreign Minister al-Attiyah, Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoglu, Egyptian Constitution Party President ElBaradei and five calls to Ambassador Patterson on that day alone."

An aide said Kerry was not on the boat during the Situation Room meeting or while working with Anne Patterson, the U.S. envoy to Cairo, or with foreign leaders.

Kerry had just returned from a two-week, 22,500-mile trip to Asia and the Middle East, his fifth to the region since taking his post in February. His main focus was on restarting Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations, as well as those in Syria.

On Thursday, Independence Day, Kerry held phone conversations with more foreign officials, including Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

On his boat - Good

This wingnut obsession with where democrats are during a crisis is really an attempt to imply that they aren't interested, in-charge, managing events, but when Republican politicians are flying at 30,000 feet over a developing disasters and refusing to get involved, there is nothing wrong in that because the victims are just poor blacks. The hypocrisy is legendary.
On his boat, in the Department of State, travelling around the world, any democrat is more in charge than any Republican. But I do have to admit, Republicans are much better at War. They are much better at murdering innocent civilians than any Democrat.
Do you notice that they attack Obama for not being around for Benghazi (a right wing lie), but attack him for being around for the execution of Bin Laden. So if he does or doesn't do anything they will attack him instead of defending our country.

Well Jerry if someone doesn't

Well Jerry if someone doesn't agree with your thinking you go to insulting....interesting Some would call that bullying. Aren't you the one that cries about how the Governor was a bully? Well I would have to say you had to be one of these two people. One you were a little mommies boy which when somebody didn't give you your little doll you would run to mommy and cry so she would get the doll for you OR you would walk around like you were King S#@* and bully everyone around. My money is on option 1 I'm guessing you were a bit of a sissy and now that your grown up and you can stand behind your key board and act tough. I will stop putting my comments up so you can have proverbial "dolly"

Whats the big deal all

Whats the big deal all where Kerry was , when Egypt the nation we send billions of aid too is in disaray. After all no one knows where his boss was the night 4 Americans, including are ambassador to Libya were being murdered in Benghazi.

JERRY ARIPEZ's picture

After all no one knows where his boss was ??? LAME....

I am absolutely sure the Secret Service and the entire Chiefs of staff knew, his every move and whereabouts. It was your Fox God damn morons that were the ignorant ones to plant that seed into your little mind.

We all knew where he was when

We all knew where he was when Bin Laden was being taken out, plenty of campaign photos were taken of POTUS. After 9 months , we still dont know where he was, when those 4 brave Americans were being murdered. The only thing we know was that he and Hillary purposely misled, blaming it on a stupid You Tube video. Also Steve you can stop with all of the personal attacks.

Where was Bush? Where was Boehner? Where was Waldo?

Another political grand stand by the leader of the teapublicans!
Where was John Boehner when Bush was president and had 10x as many attacks as Obama?
Did he ask anything? Even where was Bush?

I could not find none of your concerns or questions when the attacks occurred under Bush.

U.S. Embassy and Consulate attacks:
> Jan. 22, 2002: Kolkata, 5 killed
• June 14, 2002: Karachi, 12 killed
• Feb 28, 2003: Islamabad, 2 killed
• June 30, 2004, 2 killed
• Dec. 6, 2004, 9 killed
• March 2, 2004: Karachi, 2 killed
• Sept. 12, 2006, Syria, 4 killed
• March 18, 2008: Yemen, 2 killed
• July 9, 2008: Istanbul, 6 killed
• Sept 17, 2008, 16 killed.
GOP/Tea Party outrage: ZERO.

Reality: 4000 Americans died in two wars, where was Bush on all of those and where was the concerns?
Reality: All of those Americans plus the FOUR in Benghazi VOLUNTEERED to be in those hot zones to do a job...

Now I understand that if you have never worn the uniform, you would have that type of reaction and stupefied concept of being in a hot zone, that another such as Hannity refused to do or like Ted Nuggent who actually on purpose shit in his pants to avoid enlistment, would ask or act like retards about just FOUR doing their jobs.

Bob White's picture

Jerry I just checked the

Jerry I just checked the first three points you have and I couldn't see where any Americans were killed.

I also didnt see any cover

I also didnt see any cover ups like Benghazi, in all those instances he provided.

JERRY ARIPEZ's picture

You must mean the coverup that the right concocted

But there's no evidence in the emails that the idea of spontaneity was initiated by anyone associated with Obama, the White House, or the president's wider political fortunes. Did Obama benefit from the spontaneity narrative? Yes. But to embrace intelligence from your CIA that is favorable to you—when you have no reason to doubt your intelligence service—is not the same as making up a false story. It’s not even a sin.

Aides to Republicans pushing for additional investigations concede that the leaked emails don't show much White House involvement.

That's spin and it's lame, but it's a present-day failing unconnected with White House actions last fall. So the president and his aides are guilty—guilty of doing a bad and misleading job of explaining why there was no cover-up. But that’s not the smoking gun Republicans set out to find.
Bottom Line, Issa prosecuted nobody, nada, nothing...

Dennis It seems that Jerry

Dennis It seems that Jerry likes living in the past he did the same with me yesterday. I think if you read my post I think you will agree with me the type of person he is.

Wouldn't you agree nobody listened to him when he was younger but now he can puff out his chest and people have to listen to him with crazy stats and very one sided videos. I listened to one of them about the debt you want to laugh check it out. They called the spending after 911 "higher spending" I called it defending our self. Not like the President that we have now who would apologize for being rude to these crazies.
One last thing Dennis you cant reason with unreasonable people.

I totally agree Bob. Glen

I totally agree Bob. Glen Beck wrote a book called argiung with idiots. You can't reason with a idiot.
