T. Shields: Democrats not serving the country well

How can people continue to support President Obama and his sorry administration?

Who refused the increased security requested before the attack in Benghazi? Who refused to dispatch relief forces at the time of the attack? President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should stop dodging those questions.

The U.S. Middle East foreign policy is embarrassing.

Harassment of conservative organizations by the IRS has been reported.

The NSA has been secretly spying on public phone calls and messages.

Racists Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have stirred up the public over the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case, aided by the left-wing media, President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder. Answers to the many black-on-black murders are absent.

The national debt is $17 trillion and growing. The Democratic Senate continues to block Republican spending corrections. Democrats have shown no courage to do the right thing. Exorbitant waste goes uncorrected.

Obamacare was enacted by a Democratic Congress with Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging “pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it,” and the Democrats did, while carefully engineering passage to avoid activating any painful parts until after elections. More than 1,200 organizations, mostly labor unions, have received waivers from parts of the act.

Barack Obama is a great speaker but a pitiful “do-er.” Senate President Harry Reid rarely allows Republican measures to be debated or brought to a vote, thus enactment is impossible.

Voters should consider such Democratic trends, which are not serving this country well.

Thomas Shields, Auburn

Oh my ???

Really facts seem to not be correct
1Benghazi--budget cuts by Republicans to State Dept budget was a factor
2.As the military stated in hearing the forces were too far away
3. did you watch the hearings and read the reports many of them -- what question not ask do you want an answer too? President not involved OOPs!
4. Middle East policy--- NO more republican wars for our great soldiers to have to dies in !!! stay out of their civil wars
5. Opps!, did you watch the IRS hearing?? NO connection to White House and Progress organizations were also investigated --no scandal just a lot of republican political theater
6. nothing secret about the NSA it was a law that the republicans voted to support several times since 9/11 -- OPPs they didn't read what they voted for ??
7. Zimmerman -took a gun left his house because a Black young man with a hoody was walking in this neighbor and he killed him -- if he had been white would he have left his house to follow him ?? NO
8. Have you seen that the debt is slowing down and the budget has been reduced -- Opps!
9. Republicans have blocked every JOBS bill proposed by the president and voted 40 time to kill a healthcare programs that is currently working Opps!
10. Are you kidding me!!! Republican Senate leaders have used the filibuster 100's times more than any time in history to stop any hope of JOBS for the American middle class
11. Just who are the republicans serving it is NOT -- middle class, women minorities, poor , students --

Oh look...

It's another fact free diatribe against liberals from Tom Shields. The Sun Journal printer his (and MJ Newell's) letters so often that they should be paid columnists. Ever since Scott Lansley left they've needed a new columnist who substitutes information for insults and denigration of all who disagree. (Poliquin almost qualifies, except that he insults our intelligence rather than those evil, world-ending liberals.)

This letter is so factually deficient (as usual) I'm not sure where to start. Fortunately I've arrived late so others have already done it.

All that we have to do is to look what Democrat policies did for Detroit to see what is on the horizon.

Politicians and only

Politicians and only politicians control Detroit spending; there is no way in hell you can blame excess Detroit spending on Republicans. You can't touch that.

Let the truth be told that Democrat politicians did not roll back spending when the tax base eroded. The result is known - bankruptcy.

Let persons who fart in church sit in their own pew, and it is all D. Democrat, Diarrhea, or both - you chose.

Let those people rot in their own Democrat polices as a lesson.

Same old, same old Republican lies as other commenters

have made clear.
Phony scandals invented by Republicans editing video, testimony, and speeches. Issa has not successfully identified a single situation that compromises the White House. Not one.
The U.S. Middle East foreign policy is infinitely better than the previous irresponsible and failed policies of the Bush Administration - unjustified wars that failed to accomplish US goals and were not paid for.
Black on Black murders - a traditional distraction. Why aren't Republicans worried about white on white murders - 86% of white murder victims are killed by whites - instead they are arming criminals, the mentally ill, and traitors.
Democrats are blocking Republican Spending corrections! You joke. Republican programs and actions are responsible for more the 2/3rds of the current debt. Republicans only oppose Democratic spending.
Obamacare along with Medicare will be one of the hallmark accomplishments of this country which is why the Republicans are actively sabotaging it.
Republican breaking the filibuster record and even Boehner can't get legislation out of the House. They have passed 19 bills that became law.
If the Republicans are so great let's image what they would do were they in complete control of the Federal Government based on what they have done in states they completely control. Unions gone. It would be illegal to organize a union. Woman - barefoot, pregnant, and submissive. Birth control illegal. Abortion illegal. Rape by device (trans-vaginal ultrasound) mandatory. Politicians control what doctors can do and say. Country in massive depression with no help from the Federal Government. 30% Unemployment. Appointed Economic Czars with the power to overrule decisions by democratically elected officers including breaking contracts in violation of the Constitution. The list goes on and on - No EPA, Commerce Department, Education Department, Labor Department. And then some minor things that Republicans have been working toward for many decades - Repeal of Social Security, Medicare, and Obamacare.

OK the Dems are all wrong................

Now what? I haven't heard any feesable health care plans coming from the Right, To be honest, I haven't heard much of anything but criticism coming from Republicans.
In my line of work, the way we make progress with difficult projects is called "back and forth". You start with the task at hand. One guy will suggest a possible solution, the next guy will either agree or tweek the first idea with an idea of his own. Sometimes we may have five or six people contributing to the overall solution. In the end, the task is always accomplished. If the solution is a great idea, it's entered into the "task solution" book, So everyone can benefit from a logically thought out solution. A solution that one person or one point of view could never have come up with on their own.
Just think of the outcome of some of our most difficult tasks, if one or two contributors did nothing but complain or deny someone the right to try something different. They would be out the door, simple as that. In business you need positive results. You need timely results. There's no room for cry babies and nay sayers. They hold up production and for the most part annoy the other team members. It should be the same in Government. Stop fighting back and forth, work together to achieve a common ground. Believe it or not, it does work, I've done it a hundred times....................

Jonathan Albrecht's picture

Frank, excellent comment.

Because it addresses the central political issue of our Post-depression period. The political center and left want to work together as a team to solve the real economic challenges the Country faces. But the right has choose a course of Demolition Derby. They do not contribute ideas, solutions, or cooperate in anyway. They would destroy the country to gain power. They threaten to bankrupt the country; destroy our credit; sabotage economic growth; cut our standard of living; and all to make the very rich much richer.
And Health Insurance is a good example. Obamacare is Romneycare is a Republican alternative to single-payer insurance program which they laid out in detail in 1993. They have voted in the House 38 times to repeal their own idea. Shows how radically they have changed. Grayson articulated the new Republican Plan very well some years ago - If you get sick; die quickly. This was confirmed during the 2012 Republican Presidential debate when Ron Paul was asked what the government should do for a man with no insurance was diagnosed with cancer. The crowd in unision yelled before he could answer - "Let him die".

Maine is a poor state with relatively large number on state healthcare.

True on all counts. They have

True on all counts. They have just as much welfare, perhaps more, but they also have more working people to help absorb the cost. Maine makes it very profitable for people not to work,in the face of a healthy "want ads" section in the local papers.

FRANK EARLEY's picture

Mark, Who is talking Free Healthcare???????

There is a big difference between free healthcare and affordable healthcare. I'm on Medicare, I've heard over and over again that Medicare is somehow free. I have to pay, I pay almost as much as I used to pay when I had company offered insurance. Granted I do need a lot more medical care than the average person, but even so, what I pay monthly comes right out of my Social Security check.
I don't think anyone could realistically look for free coverage, but affordable for every income level is a much more effective course. I really don't think that's to much to ask for. If you had a relative who needed a medical procedure, and they had no affordable coverage, you would understand where I am coming from. Believe it or not, Obamacare, may one day save your life. you never know whats in store down the road............

Where to start....

Ok, let's start with Benghazi.
Surprise attacks and ambushes happen all the time to diplomatic personnel. Happened 10-12 times under Bush in Iraq. What makes this different is the Ambassador was killed.

Now, is the administration to blame? Sure. But so is congress for voting down the funds to provide additional security to the state department, and to be fair, so is Ambassador Stevens. If he felt that the location was not secure as he stated in his wires, he should not have been conducting business there. He put himself in danger, and paid for it dearly.

Ok, next - NSA wiretaps.
Well, it's nice that you are concerned about this now, but this had been going on for years. I have been pissed about this for years, and was equally pissed when Bush started it and when Obama gave the telco's amnesty for turning over records. You didn't see too concerned about it when the Bush administration was doing it, so it's hard to take you seriously on this issue.

Treyvon Martin case:
Last time I chacked, "Racists Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson" were not part of the administration. And when polls show that 86% of blacks though the verdict was BS, thats not due to Jessie Jackson or Sharpton. They didn't stir it up, they are a reflection of the Black community's reaction. And comparing this case to other murders is just stupid. Unless, of course, your saying Zimmerman was a murderer?

Debt:
Again, I'm seeing a case where it's cool if a Republican increases debt, but not a Democrat. Bush increased the debt by 6 trillion., and alot of the programs he started are still increasing the debt, like Medicare part D. But, this wasn't a problem then?

The Nancy Pelosi quote.
Why don't you post the full quote?
"But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy"

You cheapen your argument when you cut quotes like that. It makes you look dishonest.

MARK GRAVE's picture

“Now, is the administration

“Now, is the administration to blame?”

We don’t blame them for that. We blame them for lying about it even after it is clear they are lying.

NSA wiretaps.
Un constitutional in my opinion and should be stopped, but D and R’s alike are in on this.

Treyvon Martin case

No, but the President is, and he should have kept his mouth shut. Obama should be unbiased, correct?

Debt
It is not okay for either party, but we have to deal with the party at hand, and it is all Dem.

The Nancy Pelosi quote
Nancy’s comments only go to display the intelligence level we are dealing with, or lack thereof.

Yet you still back Dems with all of their faults.

Jason Theriault's picture

"We don’t blame them for

"We don’t blame them for that. We blame them for lying about it even after it is clear they are lying."

I don't give a damn what they said on the Sunday shows. I care about them preventing this from happening, and I hope they learned from this.

"Un constitutional in my opinion and should be stopped, but D and R’s alike are in on this."
I don't know if it's unconstitutional, but certainly should be.

"No, but the President is, and he should have kept his mouth shut. Obama should be unbiased, correct?"
No, I think the President can and should take sides. Everyone does, but his comments I think were reasonable. He made sure to point that the jury had spoken, and that sometimes we don't agree with a verdict, but we must uphold it.

I don't understand your issue with the Pelosi quote. I mean, everyone must realize that politicians are full of BS, and when they rail about how ending preexisting conditions is the end of America, their might be a little exaggeration there. That's what she alluding too, that the political atmosphere was distorting the issue.

MARK GRAVE's picture

I would think it is important

I would think it is important to all citizens to know why their government is lying to them. After all, the lies came out of this administrations mouths; there is no hiding that.

Inspector General Confirms Improper Access of Political Donors’ Tax Records

Excerpt:

"TIGTA (Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration) had identified eight items involving allegations of unauthorized access or disclosure of tax records of political donors or candidates. “Our reviews determined that in four of these eight cases, the allegations were not substantiated by evidence,” George explained. “In one case, we determined that no access occurred, and, in three cases, access occurred, but there were legitimate business reasons for the access. In the other four of the eight cases, we found evidence that unauthorized access or disclosure occurred. In three of these cases, we determined that the unauthorized access or disclosure occurred, but was inadvertent and there was no evidence of willfulness. We referred one of these three cases to the Department of Justice for additional review, and the Department of Justice concurred with our assessment that there was no willfulness and declined prosecution. In the fourth case, we presented evidence of a willful unauthorized access to the Department of Justice, but the case was declined for prosecution."
