J. Roy: U.S. weakening

President Barack Obama must take his head out of the sand and admit to himself and the country that the United States is broken and almost beyond repair.

Many other countries are getting stronger and realize that the U.S.A. is going downhill at a rapid pace. The U.S. pays out billions of dollars to other countries so they can build up their military to protect themselves from the real enemy that visited the U.S. on 9/11. This country has put itself in a no-win situation.

Obama and members of Congress have not been able to pass any of the high priority bills because of the greed at the core of the government. They should stop trying to run Syria and the rest of the world.

The U.S. is not going to solve anything by attempting to destroy weapons that have probably been relocated since the gas attack. U.S. weapons strikes will just make matters worse. The missions would be a complete failure that would kill more innocent people.

People must keep in mind that if things do not change in Washington, D.C., this country will lose everything that the nation's brave armed forces fought for through the years.

The U.S. will be ruled by a country that grew stronger as the U.S. weakened.

Joseph Roy, Lewiston

Joseph, President oBAMa is

Joseph, President oBAMa is doing all he can to 'save' America, but it is surviving anyway.

The notion that the US is weakening is silly.

We have the largest economy by far in the world. Last challenger was Japan and that challenge ended 20 years ago as they went into a period of no growth for a decade.
We have the largest military establishment by far - larger than the next 11 countries combined. Only a resort to nuclear weapons can negate our huge supremacy.
The US is broken but President Obama has little or nothing to do with it. President Obama has no prevented virtually all compromise in congress to end. He welcomes negotiations and compromise. The growing radicalization of the right wing funded by its billionaire John Birch Society members, the Klan, the League of the South, Family Research Council and other hate groups is preventing solutions to our economic problems.

PAUL ST JEAN's picture

"The US is broken but

"The US is broken but President obama has little or nothing to do with it."
That's right up there with, "No, I did not have sex with that woman, Lewinsky".

Glad to see you are keeping to your high standards;

no facts, not even an argument; just a ridiculous conclusion

PAUL ST JEAN's picture

Just the "ridiculous

Just the "ridiculous conclusion" that a lie is a lie and your statement was laughable. Be a good soldier and support your president regardless of what he does or doesn't do, Jon. Certainly, you must know that all of us are not drinking your tainted Kool-Aid. We will elect someone in 2016 who will uplift our country from oBAMa's doldrums of destruction and America will once again prosper.

repeat

"no facts, not even an argument; just a ridiculous conclusion"

PAUL ST JEAN's picture

You had a good run on hate

You had a good run on hate groups going, Jon, but you left out the NAACP.

 's picture

I missed it for a simple reason; it's one

Pick a reason why a group should be characterized as a hate group and the NAACP will not fit any of them

PAUL ST JEAN's picture

They promote the advancement

They promote the advancement of colored people (affirmative action) but relish doing so to the detriment of white people (affirmative action).

 's picture

What has that got to do with hate.

1. Affirmative action is simply legal redress for institutional and individual injury i.e its justice.
2. Benefiting one group that has been injured as a group over hundreds of years (still on-going) does not work to the detriment of other groups. Its not a zero sum game. The more any set of people are given to have an equal opportunity to contribute to this society improves society for everyone.

The goal post

While countries like China, Japan and the European nations are investing their money in new medical cures and China is investing in infrastructure development in Africa and South America and Europe is developing alternative energy sources and other countries are investing in transportation and energy modernization, the US is busy with its foreign policy designed to grab the last drop of oil left in the world and to make peace between Sunni and Shia and Palestinians and Jews. While we are policing the world, other countries are investing in high speed rail, space exploration and expanding their bandwidth. While we are spending all of our wealth on weapons other countries are spending theirs on building the future. What we need a whole new approach to foreign policy. Catholics and Protestants killed each other over religious differences for over a thousand years. Now the Muslims are doing the same. It doesn't seem to me that we should be involved beyond protecting our borders. They will stop when the get tired of seeing their children murdered.

 's picture

So who does the policing?

The UN is an anti-American debating society and has been from its inception. Even if it could get its act together, Russia and China can veto anything significant. Yes, even that great investor, China.

This is really ironic. The left in the US says we should stay out of foreign entanglements and become isolationists once again. By the way, if we're to protect our borders, does that include our border with Mexico, choking off the endless supply of undocumented Democrats?

 's picture

Now I know you aren't ignorant, so you know this statement

is false - "The UN is an anti-American debating society and has been from its inception." The UN was created at the insistence of the USA. It began by giving the US the go ahead to defend the Korean peninsula against military invasion. Nothing anti-American about it. It's what we meant it to be and done a fine job of it. What it hasn't been is what some people want - a rubber stamp for US policy.

Place blame where it rightly belongs

Constitution of the United States

Article I, Section 7: 1: All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

The House of Representatives - not President Obama - is only authorized power for raising revenue.

 's picture

While you're passing out blame ...

... save more than a little for an administration that acknowledges the existence of Congress only when it needs political cover. As an example, Obama asked for Congress to bless his messing with Syria only after he stepped on the presidential crank by overhyping his newly discovered hawkishness. Compounded by his stupid remarks at G20: We have good polling on this ... The rest of the world now knows what only the most ardent leftists here refuse to admit: Their messiah responds to the blowing winds and is only the teleprompter-reader-in-chief.

Yeah, cuz no other politician

Yeah, cuz no other politician in the history of American politics since 1980 EVER depended on a teleprompter. And no other President, D or R, ever based a decision or modified a position based on his political advisors reading of the polling numbers. Seriously, dude, you really need to get your head out of your alimentary canal.

Actually, he "ran to the cover of Congress" because House and Senate members, R and D, stamped their collective feet and whined about how he was going to go off an do this without asking for their blessing. So he called their bluff. Apparently, they're blinking.
