South Portland teens charged after cat placed in microwave

SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) — Two teenage girls from Maine are facing animal cruelty charges after a video of them placing a cat in a microwave oven showed up online.

South Portland police started an investigation after getting numerous tips when the roughly 10-second video showed up on Twitter last Thursday.

The 15-year-old girls, whose names were not released because they are juveniles, were issued summonses Monday to appear in court. Police said they are students at South Portland High School.

The video shows one girl place the cat in the microwave, close the door and appear to turn it on. The other girl opens the door and removes the kitten, estimated to be about 8 weeks old.

The cat survived and has been turned over to an animal shelter.

The case remains under investigation.

Death threats?

Apparently there have been death threats against the girls and the police are worried about vigilante justice. Death might be a bit strong but I'm thinking a lobotomy might be in order.

Would counseling really help????

I would think that 2 teenage girls, as badly damaged, mentally, as these two appear to be, may be beyond counseling. Bad behavior is one thin, intentional torture and inflicting pain on a small defenseless animal is unimaginable . I would hope that from now on these two be incarcerated or closely observed for life. They have demonstrated the worst example of depravity and indifference to life, that I have ever seen, and I've seen some pretty messed up s*+it. How depraved can a person be, and bought back to sanity? Not this far out I'm afraid....................

Counselling? Hoe about

Counselling? Hoe about putting them in a microwave--it'll be a lot cheaper.

Very sad

I hope these girls will be required to get some pretty serious counseling.
