Lisbon approves school budget

LISBON — In a second referendum in as many months on Tuesday, voters approved a $14.2 million school budget for 2009-10 by a vote of  417-380. In an opinion question, 315 said they thought the budget was too much and 75 thought it was too low.

The original budget, $14.33 million was reduced by $115,381. That was defeated in a referendum in June.

A total of 798 votes were cast Tuesday, representing 12 percent of the 6,886 eligible registered voters, Town Clerk Twila Lycette said. The cost of the second election was $3,000 Lycette said.

Tuesday's turnout was better than the first referendum in June when only 421 residents turned out and defeated the question 190-231.

To lisbonreporter who are

To lisbonreporter who are you to name call. Why don't you ask the town manager and town councils what they did with yearly maintenance budget? Maybe if they cut the police budget by$ 200,000.00 we could keep the school in good repair. It is time for Brooks to go and stop the family nepotism and have no people related working in same department. It is also time for Bowie to go as long as he has relatives working for the town.

And the old fossils of

And the old fossils of Lisbon speak again. Who needs an accredited high school. The pennies you save in the short term are a pittance to what the community could gain from a first class high school and the revenue and new young families it would bring to town.
Time for Cote to hit the road!
