In rebuttal, P. Landry: Stop bashing Bush

It was very interesting that the editorial titled “The disaster that is HealthCare.gov,” published Nov. 3, was prefaced by an anecdote about former President George W. Bush and the government's poor performance handling the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

If my memory serves me correctly, that storm was eight years ago and the only similarity between Katrina, an act-of-God disaster, and HealthCare.gov, a man-made disaster, is the word "disaster."

If the editors’ intent was to take a swipe at Bush, the Katrina anecdote would have been more aptly compared to Hurricane Sandy, given the editorial cartoon abutting the editorial by Dave Granlund. At least then you are comparing two natural disasters that both brought death and destruction.

If you wanted to grade both presidents handling of each respective natural disaster, I would say they both deserve an F, with an F-minus going to President Obama because he should have learned from Bush’s missteps.

As for the man-made disaster called HealthCare.gov, Obama owns that one by himself.

Editors Rex Rhoades and Judith Meyer would be better served by keeping their biases in check. Citing Bush's failings made them look petty and delusional.

Mother Nature in all her fury has proven time and again that man has no control over her whims. Healthcare.gov is a storm three years in the making, manifested by the whims of President Obama and company.

George W. Bush had nothing to do with it.

Parallels

If you want to compare the two President Bush rolled out Medicare Part D. It was also a confusing mess for a time. Nobody excoriated him for it they just fixed it. Nobody today would like to go back to the days when medicine was unaffordable for anybody but an Arabian sheik. One big difference though is that Part D was not funded. It simply was added to the debt. The ACA is totally funded. As for those people complaining because their insurance company cancelled their policies. Would they prefer that Obama have the power to force the companies to keep the policies in force? Actually that would have been the Democrat's plan. It is called single payer. The companies , not the government, are cancelling policies because they can. In fact they would have cancelled them if the client had gotten sick too. The only reason people like those plans is because it gives them the illusion that they have coverage by a well known insurance company. Thanks to the ACA the new policies will actually provide coverage and they won't legally be able to kick you off because you got sick.

There is another parallel

There is another parallel that we should draw between President Bush’s and President Obama’s failures.

The parallel we should learn is that Government is not always the solution. The resent failure of Obamacare is my case in point.

Ron..nald,

Niether would I expect Obumma care to create such chaos in a month. It appears to me that Obumma care made things much worse in less than a month.

Moreover, what Obumma care has done is nothing more than create a manipulated market in the insurance industry for which we cannot walk away from by law. The American people are trapped, which makes for bad economics.

What about Clinton?

As I recall, the whole time during every Abu Graib, WMD misinformation, and "heck of a job Brownie" moment, Bush's die-hard supporters would try and take attention off of him by bringing up something Bill Clinton did in his time of office. People on both the left and right have a bad habit of letting their perceptions get skewed so that they judge the failures of those they don't like by a harsher standard than those they do. I can see plenty of argument for both sides being guilty of this between this articles such as this and comments made by others about that article. It is almost a tradition to try and take focus off of the present situation by pointing out the embarassing moments of the previous administration. I could continue that tradition by saying that Obama didn't wait for days to respond to Sandy, leaving people to die on the roofs of their flooded houses. Or I could open a whole other can of worms by claiming Katrina was the result of man-mad global warming (or punishment from God if I wanted to annoy a different part of the populace). But for now, I will keep it simple and suggest that it is time for us to agree that we are all hypocrites.

Have you noticed?

Obama has taken responsibility and has apologized to the American people for the ACA (Obamacare) roll out debacle.
I believe it takes a man of good conscience to own up to his own mistakes and misgivings. He will get it fixed and health insurance for all Americans will happen.
Did Bush ever apologize for getting us into an unwarranted war or for abandoning those devastated and homeless Americans post Katrina? If he did,
I never heard it.

MARK GRAVE's picture

Obama apologized

Obama apologized begrudgingly. Democrats up for election in purple states pressured him in to it. Otherwise, Democrats would likely lose seats in the Senate; it may be too late to recover from this blunder already. Employer mandates kick in next year, so it will be good to piss off the working class for the 2014 election cycle.

Anyhow Al, I'm sure you'll be back spooning with Obumma soon.

Obama admitted that he was misstaken.

I don't know if Obama came out and admitted he lied, especially when he didn't lie to anyone. He did speak prematurely, he was mistaken, he encounted an unexpected situation. Fact is, something happened he had no way of anticipating. I feel he should have, but what I feel isn't important. That line about him "colluding with insurance companies", is pretty explosive. Is that a result of your delusional imagination? If you had a clue as to what actually happened, you would know he hadn't "colluded" with the insurance companies.
Now, Knowing you as I do, you will tell me you know everything there is to know about health insurance, or at least as much as "Google" can tell you. The reason for the cancellations is the result of another part of the ACA designed to protect health insurance customers from paying for trash policies. There are many many people out there, paying monthly premiums for policies that probably wouldn't supply you with an aspirin if you got sick. I have seen people learn of these policies, usually while still in the emergency room. The insurance companies know that medical treatment will be supplied, but it isn't until the hospital checks the validity and scope of the policy, that they find it doesn't cover much. These people losing their coverage, never really had that much coverage to begin with. The higher cost is just what they would have had to pay for a legitimate health insurance policy. It's the insurance companies themselves that caused this problem, if the President is guilty of anything it's exposing all these trash policies and saving people from huge medical bills, even after paying their premiums.
I assume you'll tell me I wrong, and that because I'm leaching off the Government, I'm not to be believed. I will tell you one thing, this can not be blamed on the president, he's going to fix the problem anyway. the ACA will come out of all this criticism with flying colors, and help millions of people stay healthy and out of debt................................

Pathetic.........

Gonna keep using that same old lie. Most if not all these people were paying for nothing already. It's the insurance companies that caused this with their low price, low coverage policies. I've seen people try and use them, it's pathetic..........

It is my business.....

I'm sure you would agree. When these people with the useless policies try using them, they will have already received the treatment. These people will end up defaulting on their bills. Where do you think the hospitals make up the difference? It's my business for another reason too. When your kind keep harping on Obama Care, It's my business, because I know about the millions of people this program will help, I don't care about your smaller Government, I don't care about your tax cuts. If we need to raise taxes to make this bill work? I'll be first in line.
It's people like you who fight to block what needs to be done in this country, that are destroying the economy, causing chaos in congress, and just plain ruining this country with your right wing BS. I'll tell you what, you guys all get together and win the next presidential election. then you can do what ever you want, but don't try blocking the president that won this election from doing what we elected him to do. Majority rules. We don't need a bunch of "Good Ol Boys" sticking their nose in where it don't belong.......................

You make Bookcases your business because you are on the free end of it. The takeaway is that people like me, those paying the bill, have the last word. We will string government by one .

The democrats surly have you hoodwinked since you fail to notice all the "good ol boys" the president is servicing with tax exemptions. I hope you survive long enough for the paying population to see you really begging in the street next to the rusted old hull of a Lincoln SUV. Once again I will need a translation, Funny you mention bookcases I had one built as a room divider this weekend. I still can't figure out how it's my business. How am I on the free end of anything. I pay a lot every month for my health care. More than I did when I was working.
Please don't refer to my beautiful Black Lincoln, as a horseless wagon. It's got 560 brand new horses under the hood. I heard some Obama supporter blaming Bush for the failed web-site roll-out. The excuse was that Obama couldn't spend more than nearly a Trillion dollars on rolling out Obamacare because Bush spent too much money during his administration.

Typical liberal excuse: We just did not spend enough, that is why failed.....

What a moron!
