Motorist boards school bus after students make gestures

HARRISON — An unidentified motorist boarded a school bus carrying high school students home Monday afternoon after at least two students made inappropriate gestures toward the driver of a vehicle trailing the bus on Route 117, Assistant Superintendent Rick Colpitts told the Board of Directors on Monday night.

Colpitts said the incident occurred on Route 117 in Harrison when bus No. 6 stopped to let students out. While the incident is still under investigation and details were sketchy, Colpitts said he was told at least two students were involved in "unkind behavior" that included gestures.

"The bus came to a stop and the motorist got on," Colpitts said after the meeting. The bus driver was able to get the motorist off the bus and called police. Colpitts said he was told that both Bridgton police and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to the call.

Colpitts said he was told the motorist was not charged with any crime.

Neither Bridgton police nor the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office had any details about the incident available Monday night. Sgt. Kerry Joyce of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said no information would be available until Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile Colpitts said the bus driver was expected to submit an incident report to school officials and the students would be meeting with the principal Tuesday.

"It will be fully dealt with by tomorrow morning," he said.

Well, those gestures seem to

Well, those gestures seem to follow into adulthood and it is disgusting. A couple of weeks ago I was turning right. I thought I had my blinker on as it was flashing in my car, but a young woman tooted her horn and gave me the finger. I was surprised to find my blinker was on the "blink" but really, The finger???? Everyone is so ready to be rude. It would be nice if it were dealt with early and changed!

Nancy, why do you think the

Nancy, why do you think the man who boarded the bus should be exposed? He did nothing wrong, as he had to have bus drivers permission. I agree with the others...the kids should be exposed, or was one of them yours? If so, shame on you for not wanting your kid or any other kid to take responsibility for innapropriate actions! It's people like you who are helping to deteriorate our kids morals, responsiblities, ethics, etc. Kudos to the man who took action! I'd support him all the way to the supreme court!!

Well I didn't quite read the

Well I didn't quite read the same story as you did. I do not see where this story says the bus driver gave permission for the person who boarded the bus that was not a student.

Yes, teens are out of hand now a days and I would of been upset also. The difference is I would of called the police myself while I followed the bus until the police arrived. I would not of gotten on the bus because it would escalate things more then needed. If the driver did not have a cell phone, he could of waited till the bus stopped and gone to the bus doors to talk with the bus driver but not walked on to the bus.

The man that boarded the bus was RIGHT in doing some thing about it and I'm glad he did. Now I hope they kick those students off the bus for the rest of the year and make them do some kind of community service or something. This should not go unpunished.

I agree...these teens should

I agree...these teens should be taught a lesson. If made a fool of, maybe they will think again before being disrespectful. Scary this is how we are raising our children...yes the ones that will soon be in charge of the country. Its quite possible though that these will not be running our country but they may become the CFO or CEO of the Welfare Collection Agency. The ones standing in line for a free hand out because they were never taught respect.

To heck with naming the one

To heck with naming the one receiving the gestures name the high school kids who were displaying them. Why should the one who boarded the bus be blamed he should of broke their fingers just because they are kids does not mean they have the right to flip some one off repeatedly or was one your kid Nancy if it was teach him/her a little better manners and stop blaming others for your DOWNFALLS

Good for that motorist!!

Good for that motorist!! The bus driver clearly didn't know (or was out of control of his kids). Kids need to learn to be held responsible for their actions!
