Lisbon Falls woman charged with OUI while toddler in car

BRUNSWICK — Brunswick police on Tuesday charged a 33-year-old woman with driving under the influence while her 16-month-old son was a passenger in the car.

Jocelyn Houston

Jocelyn Houston of Lisbon Falls was charged with operating under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police went to Maine Street at 3:47 p.m. Tuesday for a report that a gold Buick Regal had run over a curb and come to a stop, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said Thursday. When someone approached the driver, who appeared unconscious, she allegedly drove off.

When officers arrived on Maine Street, the vehicle was gone, but about 10 minutes later, they were called to a McDonald’s restaurant on Pleasant Street, where they approached a gold Buick Regal and found Houston with a 16-month-old child in the car.

Houston reportedly appeared intoxicated. Officers conducted field sobriety tests before arresting her on a charge of operating under the influence.

The child was not wearing a coat or shoes, police said, prompting someone at McDonald’s to give officers a sweatshirt for the boy to wear. The Department of Health and Human Services was contacted and the child was released to grandparents, according to Hagan.

Houston was released on $1,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on April 8.

Where is the father?

Or is she a single parent?
Well, regardless, what she has done will haunt her for the rest of her life. She could have killed her child and herself. I hope she gets help for her drinking and grows up. Being a good parent is the hardest job in the world, and often thankless. She needs a good support group, not just her parents and not some bum looking for a "quickie". I don't know why she drove drunk with her shoeless and coatless child in the car. Looks like a quick getaway from a bad situation to me. I'm not going to judge her without knowing the facts and if the facts lead me to believe she was just drunk driving for no good reason, just partying and being air-headed, then I will be the first to say that she has no business being a parent. Until then I will wish her child all the love he/she can get. This must be very traumatic for a 16 month old.
