Mill fire declared arson

The State Fire Marshal's Office has concluded that the fire at the Cowan Mill Wednesday afternoon was arson.

In a press release, the state posted a $5000 reward on this afternoon for information leading to the successful arrest and prosecution of the person or persons responsible for seeting the fire.

Anyone with information that can aid investigators is asked to call the Lewiston Police department at 784-6421or the Fire Marshal's arson hotline at 1-888-870-6162.

Going back over the years,

Going back over the years, there have been alot of fires in the downtown area that just seem to have "plans" for the vacant lots so very soon after the fire.
Sounds alot like 'urban renewal' to me.

If the property was in foreclosure, there were tax lien's then arson makes sense. It gets the property off the named defendent's list of worries.

It started so fast...explosions...fully engulfed in minutes. Kids having "fun" could not have been so effective, I think.

It's such a tragedy; it was

It's such a tragedy; it was a historical landmark. Unfortunately, these abandoned buildings don't get enough surveillance. Vagrants and mischievous kids break into the buildings, either for temporary shelter or to destroy them. I hope they find the perpetrators.
