Deserve better

Congressional Democrats have performed disgracefully. Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., is reported to have failed to disclose millions in income, failed the requirement to disclose all of his assets, and failed to pay his taxes. He is the chair of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.

Rangel is under an ethics committee investigation. Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, moved to remove Rangel from his committee chairmanship. This motion was defeated on a party-line vote. Rep. Michael Michaud voted with the Democrats. Curiously, Rangel has contributed funds to Michaud's political campaigns.

It appears that protecting a disreputable Democrat party member is more important than running Congress honestly and ethically. No wonder people have no faith in Congress.

This lapse into dishonest and unethical activity happens all too frequently, particularly under the Obama administration. The Republicans have had their lapses, too, but most of them did the responsible thing and stepped down. There are probably others people haven't heard about yet from both parties.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised "the most ethical Congress ever," but has done little to curb the cheaters.

The Republicans learned their lessons the hard way and are now repentant. Being in the majority, the Democrats arrogantly show no signs of reform, and the media omits or plays down any unfavorable stories.

Taxpaying voters need to wake up. We deserve better.

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised "the most ethical Congress ever," but has done little to curb the cheaters."

This is the most ethical Congress and administration with more transparency in a day than Bush demonstrated in EIGHT YEARS!

Bush didn't even release visitors to the White House, something that Obama did ... and was criticized over his visitors by Republicans! Amazing, Republicans HID their visitors so they have NO RIGHT to utter a word about the honesty and openness of the Obama administration.

Republicans fail at everything they touch and offer nothing but more of the same.

FAMILY VALUES VOTERS should

FAMILY VALUES VOTERS should make sure that THEY hold everyone to the same standard. (Hypocrisy is NOT a family value!) If they would call for a DEM to step down over an affair, for instance, then they should call for the REPUBLICANS to do so as well. And if they voted for a wingnut Republican because of his supposed "family values" they SHOULD change their vote either in the next primary or next election. (And don't give me this "forgiveness" excuse. So-called "family values" voters are about as forgiving as tight yellow spandex.)

The thing is, you take a risk when you court the hard-core fundamentalist wingnuts, and motivate them by painting an opponent as immoral.

You've got to WALK the WALK because they WILL turn on you. (Arguably rightly so, based on what you RAN on!) And they started to give up on the Republicans after the Mark Foley situation (A REPUBLICAN, letter writer!), and now Craig, Haggard, Ensign, Gingrich and most recently Sanford are really killing thier motivation to get to the polls. STRANGE HOW THE LETTER WRITER DIDN'T MENTION THE MORE DIVISIVE AND DAMAGING REPUBLICAN POLITICAL SCANDALS?

I'm not saying that the poor white trash that elected these knuckle dragging Republicans are "seeing though them" or anything, but they are getting disheartened. And that helped the Democrats as much as anything in '06 and '08. The Republicans are in trouble if all they have supporting them are rich, white men and their wives. Without the trailor coalition they're are good as whigs.

Fox News omits Republican scandals in assessment of Sanford prospects

In two segments over the course of four hours on June 25, Fox News' James Rosen highlighted only scandals involving Democrats during reports that purported to examine earlier political sex scandals in an effort to assess South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's situation.

Conservative Concedes in

Conservative Concedes in Upstate Congressional Race

A staunch conservative conceded defeat to a moderate Democrat early Wednesday morning in a hard-fought contest for New York State's northernmost Congressional seat, a race that exposed divisions among Republicans over how far outside the party's base they should reach as they look to rebuild.

With 88 percent of precincts reporting, the Democrat, Bill Owens, was leading with 49 percent of the vote, while the Conservative Party candidate, Douglas L. Hoffman, had 45.5 percent.

As for "the country changing," a few boutique issues and races for governor doesn't mean the Republicans who nearly drove America into the next Great Depression are doing anything but hunting around for their next subject to smear.

That's all they can do, they're devoid of anything but serving the most ignorant with meaningless divisions. Elect enough Republicans and eventually the demage to America won't be repairable.

Oh, and in Maine ... how to the wingnuts claim "victory" when TABOR lost, among others the wingnuts favored.

Such small minded people, these wingnuts.

Very good LTTE. Totally agree. As soon as either party gets into power, their arrogance gains control and they think they are untouchable. Fortunately we have freedom of the press to keep us informed.

You guys need to stop acting like children and fighting among yourselves and tried to reason, that both of these corrupt parties are guilty!! of destroying this country!! No there's no RIGHTEOUSNESS IN Washington, they serve the special interest and foreign countries not this country and while we get the same corrupt gov, we will eventually loose our sovereignty and no longer have our freedom!!

Trying to defend Republicans

Trying to defend Republicans is a pretty pointless task. They have no credibility left. Whether its political indiscretion (like the party of small government and balanced budgets growing government faster than any other administration in history and running up the deficit a dozen times larger than all Democrats and Republican administrrations in history) or outright crime, the Republicans have an unmatched recorded. Cunningham went to jail, but he stayed in office until the last minute. Democrats have Murtha, Cunningham's counterpart which suggests the military procurement is seriously broken, but he has not been charged with anything not even an ethics violation. Bush and company saw contractors in Iraq steal $20 billion and if you throw in waste may be as high as triple that. Susan Collins held not one hearing and the Bush administration did nothing. The list of Republicans convicted of corruption is as long as your arm. Democrats on the other hand can now prove that federal prosecutions were directed by the Bush political office with Rove in charge not by DOJ.

Four hundred million dollars

Four hundred million dollars missing from the Diebold ATM's care to explain David? Or, could it be that the money was looped back and placed back into Republican donations. Read that on ZDNet they seem to have the news down pretty well to a practical science on what truly goes on technologically speaking it is better to have seen that. Really catches some of my Republican classmates off guard when they storm on and on about Obama when I noticed that are party also received contributions from Diebold which had manufactured are voting machines it seems to me that it was corruption that should never have been allowed in the first place. That is why I switched to Linux after noticing the blemishes against Windows servers and hacking attempts made on those servers.

Ah, here we go the

Ah, here we go the self-righteous Honu has spoken. Here's a flash for you. The Ashcroft and Gonzales witch hunt had to end, the AG's office had nothing as far as evidence. Have you noticed how it quietly went away. It was all done to stir up resentment so as to get a democrat (liberal at that) elected. And poor man, do your research. You'll be surprised at what you find. Like this one liner."The only difference between democrats and republicans when it comes to sex offenders is: Democrats have more, and re-elect them."

Any politician, Republican

Any politician, Republican or Democrat, who is corrupt should be criminally prosecuted, regardless of which party holds power. That said they are far more Republican criminals:

Any problem that can't be solved with taxcuts, republicans pretend doesn't exist.
