Crews clean up after a fatal car accident in front of Mac's Grill on Minot Avenue in Auburn on Saturday evening. Police say two people died in the crash at about 2 o'clock this afternoon in front of Mac's Grill. The victims have not been identified.

AUBURN —  A woman and her 4-year-old daughter were killed Saturday afternoon on Minot Avenue when a pickup truck pulling a trailer veered into oncoming traffic and struck the woman's car, police said.

The accident occurred at about 1:55 p.m. on Minot Avenue near Mac's Grill, according to Auburn police who did not release the names of anyone involved in the accident, pending notification of relatives.

According to a written statement from the Auburn Police Department, a 36-year-old woman, her 4-year-old daughter and another passenger were riding west on Minot Avenue in a 2003 Oldsmobile.

A 2007 Chevrolet truck hauling an enclosed trailer in the opposite direction crossed over the centerline and into the oncoming traffic lanes, striking the Oldsmobile.

The Oldsmobile driver was killed instantly. The 4-year-old girl was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where she later died. The third passenger remained in critical condition late Saturday night.

The driver of the truck, a 43-year-old Norway man, and his passenger were taken to CMMC and also were in critical condition, police said.

Dog wisperer, I was right

Dog wisperer, I was right behind you and blocked traffic with my vehicle and I agree, my hats off to the national guard unit. They were in the middle of a trauma class so they had many qualified medics and were extremely helpful in triage and patient care. I assisted them with packaging the victims and loading into the ambulances. I thanked them and shook thier hands after the last patient was loaded. A couple of them went in the ambulance continuing patient care. They should be commended for thier actions. let's not forget the quick response from auburn fire and their action. They went to work without hesitation and did thier job flawlessly and efficiently. This was a tragic event that I happened upon. My hat is off to everyone who did all they could, as well my heart goes out to the families of the victims.

Thanks for everything

Thanks for everything "fireguy", it was a little hectic and I thanked everyone I rubbed elbows with. From a fire fighter family here and trust that I truly know their value. I called the guard center and let them know how great the guys were as well.
Peace folks it's another day and with any luck at all, we'll all get a break from disasters for a couple of days.

the sun is also bad in that

the sun is also bad in that area at that time. I have had many close calls because of the sun and speeding cars. i think there needs to be a divider like they have going down parts of main street in Lewiston and on Washington street. just have spaces where people can get out of driveways. that way if someone starts to cross the center lane, then they will only hit the guard rail or the divider possibly saving someone else's life.

I truly wish all would slow

I truly wish all would slow down. Lives are being lost and futures being changed every day because of speed. Please watch out for all, everyone has loved ones who need them. Deepest Sympathy to all :(

I have been in three

I have been in three accidents two of which was in that same spot. Took me those three times to realize to go the speed limit. Minot Ave is now as much danger as Center street maybe now time to put a few more sets of lights to slow down traffic. I have seen people go 55 easy and most of time. Lets slow them down and save some lives.

I was essentially "first on

I was essentially "first on scene" at this accident. It was horrific. I was thankful that the Army Guard was across the street and when I yelled for medic's, they came running. Another example of our good folks in the military. Hats off to our guys.
I was able to get the surviving passenger in the womans car to respond to me. I left her when rescue arrived. Sorry Auburn, but the rescue unit IS a valuable tool.
I stepped aside for the ambulance folks and ended up sitting at the side of the road with another lady caring for the dog that had been in the pick-up also in the accident, until animal control could transport to the animal hospital. Many thanks to the lovely lady who came in her PJ's with a baby blanket for the poor injured dog.
Everyone in the car had seat belts on and the 4 yr old was properly restrained in a car seat.
The air bags deployed. It was a tragedy folks. I am saddened by the loss to the family involved and my heart goes out to all that were injured and their loved ones.
Hug your children, your family members and your DOG harder today. You have them near now and in a minutes time, that can change forever.

God bless you for running to

God bless you for running to the scene. I thank God everyday for caring people like you Dog Whisperer. I also argee that rescue 1 is a very valuable tool for Auburn. More Auburn citizens should go to the city council meetings and tell them that. I will also be praying for you as well as all the others involved. Please don't ever change this world needs more caring people like you.

God Bless all the people involved in the accident and for all that helped them.

Minot Ave is dangerous --- 4

Minot Ave is dangerous --- 4 lanes of fast-moving, usually speeding traffic, with a lot of hare-brained drivers making moves without looking, signaling, or watching anything around them.

People need to slow down and

People need to slow down and obey the speed limit on Minot ave. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more the way people fly down that road. Hopefully the Auburn Police will watch this road for speeders/ drunk drivers more often, now that two innocent people have been killed. Condolences to the families involved in this tragedy.
