I'm upset about liberalism creeping across America.
Lenin said the following:
• "The best way to destroy the capitalist system is to debauch the currency." (Barack Obama is doing a good job of that.)
• "The press should be not only a collective propagandist and a collective agitator, but also a collective organizer of the masses." (The media are liberal and biased — that's why Fox News is hated so much; they offer a different view.)
• "The goal of socialism is communism." (Liberalism is socialism.)
I see America following Lenin's ideals. Just look at the public school system — children are taught in groups; competition is discouraged; no one fails. This is liberalism at its best. Congress and Obama think people who disagree with their liberal agenda are right-wing crazies. I think they want our names and addresses sent to Washington. Gun control will be next.
The government is controlling every second of our lives. Government officials believe they know better than we how to "regulate" our daily activity and lifestyle. As long as we let them, liberals will continue to drag the nation down the road to socialism.
Liberalism equals socialism equals communism.
I do not want to live in a socialistic country. Elected officials need to remember that they are working for the people who voted them into office. They are mandated to uphold the Constitution and keep the laws this country was founded on. People need to remind them of that.
Mary Jane Newell, South Paris

"children are taught in groups; competition is discouraged; no one fails."
I am a longtime, public educator. Children are taught individually, competition is encouraged, and many frequently fail (as evidenced by the number of parents constantly on my back).
Ms. Newell, in my opinion, most of your letter is pure BS, but I limited my response to what I personally know to be true. You should do the same.

George w. Bush and Republicans trashed the economy, created a sea of red ink with two wars that we coudln't afford, one of which was unnecessary and based on LIES, refused to regulate the sub-prime market, and LIED about everything they have done.

I'm upset about the ignorance peddled by corrupt Republicans sweeping America.
The IGNORANT may scream "Socialism!" at every turn, but they're basically children playing in a sandbox.
If they were smart, they would realize that OLIGARCHY, or rule by the wealthy at the expense of all, is what has been going on in practice with health care in America.
But they aren't smart so they'll just scream "Socialism!" and likely not even realize that CAPITALISM is NOT a monopoly by health care insurance companies. Any part of a capitalistic economy that is allowed to erode all other parts, tips the entire system to OLIGARCHY which is, on balance, possibly more damaging than socialism because there is no restraint whatsoever. As those who are in control by virtue of their enormous wealth, gained thanks to the unfair exploitation of the many, gain more wealth the very nature of Democracy buckles under the weight of economic injustice.
This is where we have reached: OLIGARCHY that seeks to preserve itself by convincing the most ignorant among all Americans that what would benefit them most is in fact the thing that will drive them into the sea.

We have a government that has devolved into invading every private moment and activity, with full-time "Professional Politicians" who are out of touch with the people who they think must be treated as mindless, little children or animals incapable of caring for themselves and families or make the decisions that are right for their own family. Liberalism is a bad thing. It takes from those have worked hard to earn and gives to those that won't get off thier ass to make thier lives better. Explain to me how anyone that is a free thinker, an achiever, and worked hard for they have can willingly give it to those that haven't done the same BY CHOICE. I'm not saying we shouldn't take care of those that CAN"T but if your neighbor won't get a job because they can't handle being told what to do by someone else, is it right that we as taxpayers pay for them to live? Or the person who has 3 kids because both he and she can't keep their pants on? Or the guy who can't stay out of the liquor store? Or the woman who has a hard time getting up in the morning? Most liberals would gladly pay they way for those folks. It just isn't right.

NOT everyone is a sore loser. Its too bad that many people judge, generalize, or put everyone that NEEDS help in the same category. I agree that there must be some that do take advantage of the system-however NOT all stories are the same. THAT woman who has a hard time getting out of bed may be suffering from severe PTSD (which includes severe anxiety/obsessive compulsiveness), depression, mental illness, or physical ailments... THAT neighbor that won't get a job just may be a person that has had trauma in their life and does have a hard time being 'told what to do'... or maybe an injury that they have been in a fight for their life to get their doctors bill paid-but Maine Doctors suck sooo much that they even 'generlize' and judge instead of helping that person get answers to LIVE and better life... Or even the person who has had 3 kids because they made mistakes like humans do but can't bear the thought of abortion or giving their flesh and blood away... so maybe they can get the help they need to have a better life for their children and go to school. The alcoholic that can't stay out of the liquor store-its a disease! It's called alcoholism. So for those select few cases that people like to generalize-please understand they need help and you may need it one day too. I don't mind 'paying out' to people who may need my help to live a decent life, have shelter, have food for themselves. People really think that this is what they want? To be relying on you? On the system? I can assure you that this only adds to their burden.
In all honesty-I couldn't see the U.S. as a 'socialism' nation. Everybody is just too damn greedy.

Dropped out of H.S., got pregnant, never had a job for more then a week, and have a drug prob.? Heres everything you need for the rest of your life without taking resposibilty for yourself because you deserve it. We'll just make the veterans, elderly, and disabled children wait in line and jump through hoops. And God help the working person who gets injured and needs some short term assistance. Those less worthy souls (veterans, elderly, children, injured workers) are helped on paper, but rarely in real life and rarely to the extent of those honerable people who just made a few mistakes and deserve to be carried for for the rest of their lives.

Now read the findings of USA v. Verdugo-Urquidez and USA v. Osama bin Laden,. Do some simple research before posting, you'll look less like a fool.
5th - "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation." What part of that was hard to understand as it pertains to enemy combatants in a time of war? Again, more research, les foolish.
6th - "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence" Again, how does this apply to non citizen enemy combatants in a time of war?
