LEWISTON — A Brunswick woman was killed late Sunday when the car she was riding in went off the road at the Bowdoinham exit of I-295 and crashed into trees, Maine State Police said.
Rachel Mooney, 25, was a passenger in the 1997 Subaru driven by Matthew Doucette, 27, of Portland. He was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said in a release.
Mooney was flown to Central Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight helicopter. She died early Monday morning.
Maine State Police troopers said speed and alcohol were considered factors in the crash. Police are expected to take measurements and examine skid marks in an effort to determine the speed of the car at the time of the crash.

I had the pleasure of meeting Rachel's mom Nancy and her brother John and they were very sweet. My heart aches for the Mooney family! I'm so very sorry for your loss!

This is just so sad. No one ever seems to learn for one, not to get in a car with a drunk driver, and the dumb ass drunk drivers seem to be everywhere! No one ever learns! They are out there, day after day, taking someones life. I read more then not, that they survive the crash, but their passengers don't. And I'll be willing to bet, once Doucette is out of the hospital, he'll be drinking again.
