Doing nothing is careless

I was interested in Rev. Dr. David Pillsbury's recent letter to the editor. He was expressing his non-agreement with other members of the clergy who support health care reform. He is concerned about "socialized medicine."

I hope he speaks against Medicare and veterans' health benefits in order to be consistent in his line of reasoning. I expect he must also oppose Mainecare/Medicaid.

I don't know his circumstances; but from his expressed point of view, I expect he has a pretty good health insurance. I've noticed that those who have "good" insurance are more likely than others to oppose changes. It's the old "I've-got-mine-to-heck-with-you" approach to life. That could be a little surprising from a man of the cloth.

He says he can't support a bill which the public hasn't read. The bill is still in the process of being created. It's a little early for a reading. However, the writing of it has been in the news for months. Seldom is there legislation so openly discussed for so long before a final vote.

He also is worried about the bill being amended and "passed in the middle of the night." Any educated person, and the good reverend is clearly one such person, knows that such language is no more than loaded words for propaganda purposes. In a representative democracy, votes are taken when they can be accomplished. The time of day is irrelevant. If a bill benefits a group of people, they hardly care about the time of day it is enacted.

I don't know the answer to the health care problem in America, but I do know that to do nothing is careless and callous.

Do nothing? This reminds me

Do nothing? This reminds me of the three monkeys: see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil. Conservatives have put forth many options and ideas to rein in rising health costs: Tort Reform, Malpractice reform, getting government at every level out of the health care business imposing a myriad of regulations that do nothing but increase costs etc. However, lawyers are the main group that liberals harvest for campaign contributions...so of course hands off. It is also, in my opinion, dishonest to equate veteran's benefits and Medicare with the giveaway we will have under the proposed "Health Care Reform." Veteran's who have risked their lives for America, and seniors who have worked long and hard to earn benefits. Seniors have paid into Medicare their whole lives and, while I think there were private sector solutions, senior who paid in should get what they were promised. It will take years to undo this uncontrolled irresponsible spending and the robbing of Peter to pay Paul health "reform" financing schemes of the liberal left. Hey, I had a car accident this morning, do you think any automobile insurance company in the world will over me for that "pre-existing condition" I doubt it! I could go on about this...but I always remember the three monkeys...it would all fall on deaf ears and blind eyes. I for one can't wait until 2010 and 2012 to show them all the door. Ms. Pelosi you can keep this "Chirstmas Present" it's nothing but coal in our stockings!

I for one want to see all

I for one want to see all United States Citizens having access to quality affordable health care, I stress quality affordable health care. I am opposed to socialized medicine, it flies in the face of what this country was founded on. I am opposed to the "public option" for several reasons, primarily it is a way to back door in socialized medicine and the proposal, I believe deliberately fails to define important issues such as what plans are to cover. Secondly and probably most striking is the United States Government has never been good at managing and certainly the track record for managing health care programs. VA, Medicaid (MaineCare) and Medicare to name a few is abismal. The current bill will throw more people into badly managed plans at ever skyrocketing higher costs. Whatever comes out of Congess from this propsal will come in the middle of the night, unrecognizable and with more attachments and amendments than Carters has little liver pills.

I am in favor of health care reform. I am in favor of quality affordable health care for all United States Citizens. This bill provides neither.

Surely either you ignore facts about the change in the so call stimulus bill in the midnight hour? Reference to senator Dodd and the other cronies who changed the language with AIG.
And his his letter has nothing to do with his insurance, he's concern that this healthcare bill (not reform) will eventually HURT Americas as a whole! Especially when Obama promised to cover all Americans.

So we rush probably one of

So we rush probably one of the biggest bills/reforms in American History, and in the same breath people itterate that the president is taking his time on the decision in Afghanistan so het gets it right. Now, after 11 months in office and with the bloodiest year in the Afghan, the author is right, doing nothing IS careless.
