BETHEL — A 39-year-old man charged in a high-speed chase last week found himself in more hot water Tuesday after police discovered marijuana growing at his home.
Jeremy Stedman of McCrillis Brook Road in Bethel remained at the Oxford County Jail on Wednesday on a charge of marijuana cultivation.
According to a release from Lt. Walter Grzyb of the Maine State Police, Trooper Jason Wing arrived at the house to conduct a bail check at about 10 p.m. Tuesday. Stedman was subject to checks as part of his bail conditions following his earlier release from the Oxford County Jail.
After determining that there was probable cause to believe marijuana was inside the house, Wing called for help from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and other state police troopers and detectives. A search of the home found that most of the second floor of the residence was being used to grow marijuana, with rooms set up with plants growing and being dried.
Approximately 100 plants were seized along with cultivation equipment. Police also found a small amount of cash.
Wing arrested Stedman on Feb. 4 after a high-speed chase that ended on Gore Road in Woodstock. Grzyb's report said the chase began on Route 232 in Milton Township and reached speeds of 90 miles per hour before Stedman pulled over. A search of his pickup truck found one open container of beer.
Stedman was charged with eluding an officer, operating under the influence, operating after suspension, criminal speed and driving to endanger.
